For your amusement...

I've been fascinated by kaleidoscope patterns. I decided to try this out in Windows Paint using my photo of my beginner class table runner.

If I can get this to upload right, the first pic will be the part of the table runner photo I worked from.

I selected a bit of that to make the kaleidoscope. I got the first two pieces together - and they make a face! Can you see the pop-eyed man with the moustache? In my elegant rose fabric, yet!

He's wonderful - who'd guess he was hiding in there!

For some reason, he's clearer against a gray background, so...

(Nope, guess not. He is clearer on my machine, not on the message board. Can't see how to delete this reply, though.)

Ducky 09-22-2009 07:12 AM

I LOVE it, Lisanne!!! That's just too good.

dunster 09-22-2009 07:16 AM

I have several yards of that same fabric and have been trying to decide what to do with it. I fell in love with its shimmery look, but now I'm intrigued by its other possibilities. Do you suppose there are more little men hiding in there? What fun!

Dunster, you seem to have a better eye for this kind of thing than I do, judging by your avatar quilt and others. I've been playing with it (see below) but haven't seen other faces or things yet. Please post if you find any!

No faces here that I can see.

That's nice of you, but I'm still a beginner. 3 years quilting now, and every quilt is a learning experience.

I've never used M/S paint and didn't even realize I had it until I looked just now. Oh dear, now I'm going to learn how to use it to flip things around like you are doing. Are you using flip and rotate? I can see how it would help to determine whether a fabric will do well as a OBW.

amma 09-22-2009 09:49 AM

I LOVE it!!! 8) 8) 8) It looks like he is sticking out his tongue too LOL That would be a fun quilt...made up with blocks with surprises in them...a different concept on the ol' "I Spy" quilts :D :D :D

SulaBug 09-22-2009 10:08 AM

That block is amazing!! :D I don't
think I have ever seen anything
like it. What a surprise, fun fun!!
:D :D :D :D :D

minstrel 09-22-2009 11:28 AM

That's hilarious. I think he's too cute. I think now you are absolutely required to make that quilt! LOL

kwhite 09-22-2009 11:33 AM

I don't see any more faces but I do see a beautiful purple butterfly.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 09-22-2009 11:45 AM

It's a Genie!!

katier825 09-22-2009 01:50 PM

Too funny! Hey, you should study it for awhile and see if it reminds you of any celebrities...maybe you can sell it for big bucks on e-bay! LOL

As usual, I see things others don't - makes me good at reading tea leaves.

I saw a Manx cat chasing a bat, following a butterfly.

sewjoyce 09-22-2009 06:17 PM

OK, I'm with you on the bat and the butterfly but if that is a cat it has been hit by a car. It's a flat cat.

haha, I see it!

Moonpi, I am in awe of you! Not only did you find other life forms, you outlined them for the rest of us. How did you do that so well? I have the hardest time trying to draw freeform on the computer.

Dunster, after 3 years and with the quality of your quilts, I don't think you're allowed to call yourself a beginner any more. Although I do agree that there will always be more to learn.

Yes, I was using the Flip/Rotate function in Paint. Unfortunately, Paint has its limitations, so I can only do this in a few directions, can't rotate to angles other than multiples of 90 degrees. OTOH, it's fairly easy to use.

Amma, it looks to me like he's sticking his tongue out, too. Now, tell me what "I Spy" quilts are? I love the concept of quilt blocks with surprises or hidden messages in them, btw. I'd love to do something like that when I'm more advanced.

Minstrel, I'm nowhere near making a kaleidoscope quilt yet, though it's on my wish list. I'm still on my beginner sampler. I might try to do my Dresden Plate block as a kaleidoscope, but it will be with other fabric. I inly used this because I wanted to play with the idea and already had the photo to use.

I saw the butterfly, had a sense of a genie so now I'll go look again.

katier825, you think maybe Elvis will show up there? LOL, if he does I'll be sure to sell it on eBay!

Eddie, are you thinking of Anne Geddes? I adore her work.

sewjoyce, I can see why it reminds you of the Monopoly man. :)

Does anyone see E.T.'s head or eyes in Lisannes 3rd picture?? Reminds me of laying in the grass, staring at the clouds playing I See as a child.

ScrapQuilter 09-22-2009 07:25 PM

Funny funny how things turn out. :)
Love it.......... what are the chances of this happening???????

I wouldn't have expected 'him' in there!
He's very comical looking...so funny, Lisanne!
My mother used to say, she had always wanted a man with a moustache, so my father grew one. Guess you got yours too!

nursie76 09-22-2009 07:50 PM

That is so neat!!!!!!!!!! You are so observant! Thanks for sharing.

I also see three little men in cowboy hats (squint a little to see them- they are on the right side). This is like the hidden picture puzzles I loved as a kid.

littlehud 09-23-2009 03:51 AM

I can see him. What a funny little man. And to think, you are his creator and you did it by accident. I love it.

reneebobby 09-23-2009 04:24 AM

He is to cute and if you look to the top of his head he is wearing a crown.

k3n 09-23-2009 04:42 AM

Ha ha - the little old man looks like a monkey! :D

In the purple fabric I see Darth Vadar if I look sideways!

When i was a child, my Mum wall papered my room with blue roses - the way they were grouped looked like a devil with staring eyes so I had to be moved into the spare room because I wouldn't sleep in there! :D
