Fall in the Adirondacks

I made this art landscape quilt for a friend. It is a Sue Pritt pattern, though I altered the scene to suit my taste. This was a fun project to create.

Thanks, SoozieQ. I SO can relate to your statement that this type of quilt is "not your strength". Nor was it mine, I loved to admire them, but felt very intimidated with the idea of making quilted landscapes. Until I attended an Accidental Landscapes Class taught by Karen Eckmeier. That was my turning point ... I was hooked. Since then, I have dabbled with several methods for making quilted landscape wall art. It's so much fun!

This is wonderful, reminds me of growing up in upstate New York. All these years in the southwest and I still miss autumn (and summers on the lake) and the change of color.

Mariposa 05-22-2018 06:35 AM

Beautifully done! Looks like a fun project with lots of details. :)

annievee 05-22-2018 06:37 AM

I love it!! I want so badly to step into it, too.
It looks amazingly serene and peaceful. :)

red-warrior 05-22-2018 07:39 AM

It looks just like the ADK that I love! Do you camp at Nick's Lake?

Teen 05-22-2018 10:55 AM

Just gorgeous! I'm in awe of your stitching.

jlt37869 05-22-2018 12:45 PM

marilynr 05-22-2018 02:24 PM

Very nicely done. Especially like your 3-D leaves & the "frame".

SouthPStitches 05-22-2018 04:42 PM

Beautiful quilt and your depiction of the ADKs is wonderful. One of my favorite places on earth and you surely did it justice. We are headed to the Adirondacks the second week of June, weather pending.

My thoughts exactly. I want to someday try one to hang on my wall.

Thanks for posting! Sue Pritt is coming to our guild in the fall and I thought I might take the workshop.

I took a workshop with Sue Pritt through my quilt guild about 5 years ago and it was very good. I highly recommend that you don't miss it! I assume that sue will be presenting a lecture to your guild at large? wait until you see her trunk show of quilts ... amazing! Enjoy.

Sew Freak 05-23-2018 06:01 AM

Oh my, that is an amazing landscape quilt! You certainly have mastered that!

Darcyshannon 05-23-2018 03:47 PM

Can I stay there a night or two? Roast some marshmallows on the camp fire?

eimay 05-23-2018 03:49 PM

Very nice, especially the 3D effect.

Nice effort. Just a note; I would just say the scale is off a bit. With the house being in the foreground, it should be a bit larger.

illinois 05-24-2018 03:06 AM

This is an amazing project! Colors are perfect and so are your stitches. Can't believe the perfection on the flames of the bonfire. Only one thing missing--a rope or chain to tether the boat to the dock. With your 3D leaves, it would be an easy and appropriate embellishment. I'm in awe of your work on this piece! Wow!!

Moonglow 05-24-2018 03:32 AM

Beautiful work. Very creative.
