My DH asked if I could whip up a donation for the silent auction to be held during our family reunion in Saskatchewan this summer. I'm still fairly new to quilting but had the urge to hand quilt. So, I made up this bug jar lap quilt/twin topper. My index and middle finger are now good and rough. Sorry, the pics are a little fuzzy.

You can come and enjoy prairie hospitality. Second only to East Coast friendliness.

You did a great job. I'm working on one now and I can assure you that I didn't "just whip it up" and it for sure won't be hand quilted. You are amazing, bet it will be a hit at the auction.

That is VERY cute!!

Jan T 04-26-2011 06:14 PM

Isn't it irritating when people think we whip things up so easily? If they only knew, they'd love the quilts even more than they love them already. Everybody wants to wrap up in one or display one. You really whipped up a good one. I hope the auction raises lots of money. Problem with that is, if it does well, they will ask for another.

Scakes 04-26-2011 06:16 PM

You did a really nice job!

Cute quilt.

LOL Ya gotta love DH. And there requests.
I loved doing this pattern. It wasn't to hard and my son really loved it. Well, he did for a while. Think he just out grew it.
I am wondering now where it ended up.

ummm.

cjaye44 04-27-2011 04:24 AM

Someone's going to be a very lucky winner...it's a very neat quilt

LOL,too. Yes, my husband thinks I'm always happy to make his agenda, my agenda. Hence, the lap quilt.
As for your son and his quilt, I,too, found this out with my DGD's quilt. It wasn't on her bed for a year before it was replaced. Hmmm...wonder where that one ended up.
And I agree with your comment concerning the time/effort/and care one puts into a quilt. Nevertheless, what people do once they receive a gift is not my business but please, don't give it back to me. That's gotta be the height of rudeness. And don't tell me you've re-gifted it either. That's just as rude.
That's my soap box about gifts.
Now, the other issue is, what happens if an auction committee doesn't have a reserved bid and your work brings in less money that you spent on making the item??? I know that this is a lap quilt but I've had things in auctions that didn't have reserved bids and it's a bit disappointing when a hand made item goes for very little money. It's not a vanity thing but an appreciation thing.
I should let it go but sometimes I wonder.

GramaLaura 04-27-2011 05:31 AM

It's beautiful and hand quilted to boot!! Stick with quilting....you are a natural! :-D
