Fancy Forest with Dinosaurs

Sooooo many pieces, I think I sewed a puzzle, not a quilt. This quilt forced me to master the 1/4" seam. Pattern was by Elizabeth Hartman, and I will say, after 50 years of working with patterns and a lifetime of reading drafting and mechanical drawings (I'm an engineer).....this is the best, most well written instructions for a complex design in quilting I have ever seen and/or worked on. Not to mention, I had a lot of fun, and it improved my quilting skill set. I have always hand quilted bed quilts, but this one is the first I have had long armed for me. I hope my daughter is not disappointed. She was the one who chose the pattern for her animal loving son, who has a pension for dinosaurs and they live in the woods on 13 acres. Enjoy:

Wow, I can see why you sent it out to be quilted, I can't even imagine trying to hand quilt through all those seams. Very nice quilt.

Lovely quilt-you did a wonderful job on it even tho' it had many pieces. I made one with just rabbits on it and you are right-the instructions were fantastic. I am sure your grandson will love it.

dunster 02-21-2017 08:33 AM

You did a beautiful job on this with wonderful color choices. I have the pattern too but haven't started it yet. I'm happy to hear that the instructions are good.

Kwiltr 02-21-2017 08:49 AM

Love your quilt! Nice job and the dinasour fabric is so cute! I have it on my list to do one of Elizabeth Hartman's quilts, but can't decide which one, they're all so cute! Thanks for the pattern "review"!

What a wonderful quilt. Your extra care shows.

I Almost ordered this pattern, but was afraid it was too complicated for a beginner like me. :)

busy fingers 02-21-2017 11:29 AM

A quilt to be very proud of.

Very personable forest characters. They are so very cute and I know your grandson will be thrilled with his quilt. I am glad you felt like you gained skills from this experience.

wesing 02-21-2017 05:46 PM

I love everything about this quilt. The animals, the colors, the fabrics, and the back. I have seen this pattern and love it, but never been motivated to buy and try to put one together. It would have to be someone REALLY special! Lucky grandson!

twinkie 02-22-2017 03:35 AM

Cute quilt. Love your background fabric.

Battle Axe 02-22-2017 03:36 AM

I have this pattern and it sits in a tub in pieces. You have encouraged me to try it again. I've solved some of my problems with 1/2 inch seams, so maybe I can also finish it. Thanks for sharing.

Battle Axe 02-22-2017 03:37 AM

That should be 1/4 inch seams, but mine waver so much I'm really laughing.

Battle Axe 02-22-2017 03:42 AM

I just noticed one of your owls is a long eared owl and the other are great horned owls. When the child goes to bed tell him that he is to find the different owl and he will fall asleep.

jmoore 02-22-2017 03:45 AM

Wow, you did an amazing job. I'm not sure it would be the quilt pattern for me but I am happy that you enjoyed the process and that you reached out of your comfort zone. Congratulations.

Not a beginner pattern. Let me restate that. The pattern is for beginners because is assumes nothing, and goes step by baby step......but the accuracy required (cutting and sewing soooo many seams ) to add up to the animal block size is unforgiving.

LGJARN52 02-22-2017 04:42 AM

Perfection!!

copycat 02-22-2017 04:44 AM

Amazing...both the quilt and you for accomplishing this wonderful quilt. I can tell a lot of love went into it!

lass 02-22-2017 04:56 AM

I think this is great. I bought her hedgehog pattern only to find that she had an all animal quilt later on.

quilter2theend 02-22-2017 05:40 AM

I was given this pattern as a gift and now that I see it finished I'm thinking "YIKES" lots of pieces. Very nicely done on your part.
