Do you bind or hem it before cutting the strips?

ckcowl 04-25-2010 06:11 AM

ok, i'm confused, reading how you did it...the exact same way you make chenille so, what makes this 'faux chenille'? i don't understand???
i've made lots of chenille stuff...but what exactly does 'faux chenille' mean???

So beautiful. Were the flannel layers plain colors or were they all a mixed print on them?

two were plain colors and the 3 was a stripe the same as the binding.......... and then there was a plain for the back......... you cut through 2 of the plain and the stripe.

Guess they call if faux chenille because it really doesn't make a pattern like the bedsspeads chenille does.

You cut the strips first then put the binding on and then wash.... that's when the chenille happens..... during the washing and drying........

Not complicated at all..... just layer 4 fabrics.. sew on 45 degree diagonal - 1/2" lines.... square up your fabric then cut down the middle of each 1/2" channel only through the top 3 pieces of fabric put binding on wash and dry --- you are finished. Wash with a couple of old towels helps to make the chenille.........
Hope this is helpful. DO NOT PREWASH FABRIC.........

I'm thinking of doing this instead of a baby quilt for my cousin. Sounds like it'll take less time and still be beautiful. Nice and thick for winter, too.

Very, very pretty!! I have made lots of things with the faux chenille but never thought about a quilt. Thanks for the idea!

Did you use scissors or a slash cutter? I am going tomorrow to see if I can find flannel and a slash cutter. Also, do you have to use flannel or would any fabric fuzz out?
