I love to quilt feathers and grids! For this quilt I used them a lot...
The quilt is hand quilted and the size is 52" x 74". I use it as a wall hanging in our living room. Hope you like it! |
Wow! It's beautiful. Your work is excellent.

I think it's beautiful. I would love to try a wholecloth quilt. Did you buy it pre printed or did you do your design. (how did you do it?)
Well done. |

On dark fabrics I use watercolor pencil in a matching color, for light fabrics I do needlemarking with a darning needle. My favourite hand quilting thread is YLI, but I also use Gütermann and King Tut of Superior Threads. The top fabric is a fine woven (with a high thread count like 75x75 threads per inch) solid called "Amish Cotton" - but this brand is not longer available here and I prefer P&B or Moda Bella Solids. For the backings I like to use flower prints of P&B, Quilt Gate and others. |
wow, that is amazing!!!
WOW How long did it take you? It is beautiful!
oh wow, beautiful work!
That is beautiful!!! Is that seamed??? If so, where? I also love YLI thread. Sadly, no one around here carries it and i have to get it off line..

Very nice, you're very talented!
Really nice work!
I dont like it...........I love it!!!! Oh my, how long do you work on a quilt like that??
Granny |
I'm sorry, but I don't know anymore how long I worked on that quilt, I never write it down... but I think about 500-600 hours.
The quilt is seamed horizontally, the center is a complete width of fabric (44") and two halves of the second width are placed on the top and the botton. I will never do it again like this, it looks better when the seams are vertical (one complete length in the middle). |
Wow, are you ever talented!!!!!! I don't think I could do that - Beautiful ;-)
Breathtaking............
That is awesome!

You are so right Andrea, you are BORN to quilt. This work is beyond description. This is unbelievable! Thanks so much for sharing your "gift".
Simply Stunning, Beautiful it is....
This is just spectacular! And thank you for sharing all your info!
The feathers look like trapunto quilting - is there extra stuffing under them, or did you use a special batt to get them so puffy? The first quilts I made were wholecloth crib blankets, about 20 years ago. They were more like comforters than quilts - certainly nothing as elegant as what you've made here. I've been looking at the stamped wholecloth kits at Heirloom Quilting - do you think that might be a good beginning project? |
Oh, its beautiful! You do wonderful work!
You never disappoint my dear! What fabulous work.
Elizabeth,
I used a low loft poly batting for that quilt - the Hobbs Poly Down Dark. No extra stuffing - but the background is quilted quite heavily and so you have the contrast. The preprinted wholecloth are a wonderful beginning project. You can focus on your quilting technique and you don't have to care for the design or the marking! Just give it a try! |
Andrea, I can't think of any words to add that haven't already been said here, but I agree with all of them. Seeing your quilting is really an inspiration to everyone .
Do I like it??????????
It is absolutely fabulous. Made my jaw drop with a big "Ohhhhhh". |
Beautiful work! So much time invested. This is a treasure. I'd want to display it as well.
WOW WOW WOW Awesome quilt.....where do you get the printed wholecloth at???? I would love to try this and after you finished that MAYBE your stitching would be LOTS better from the time you start till the finish...thanks for sharing
