I finally have my quilt back! Size: 108" x 118.5". King size, but STILL not long enough for my bed...but I am trying to think of a way to make bedskirt to work with this quilt now. I thought about using a king sheet and then sewing the same fabric as I have on my border (the floral print), but I am not sure how to go about doing that. I had it quilted for $129. Not bad considering that and the backing/batting were the only things I paid for! All the scraps in this blanket was from my stash. There was NO WAY I could have quilted this myself.
That is my handsome husband helping me with it. :) Sister's Choice Scrappy King size Sister's Choice Scrappy close up |

Great job!!! Beautiful!!!!

Wow, the quilt is fantastic. You must be very proud!
I think a box pleated bedskirt trimmed with the border fabric would look fantastic. Here's a link to a freebie pattern: http://www.ehow.com/how_4928925_sew-...-bedskirt.html Also have you ever seen those curly little pins for anchoring bedskirts? http://www.beddingtons.com/p-2267-bedskirt-pins.aspx You could create your whole bedskirt as a long length of fabric and pin to your own specifications without putting a full piece on the boxspring. |
Beautiful quilt !
It's really lovely. I like you're idea of making a skirt out of the border fabric.
This is just beautiful! I am not usually drawn to scrappy quilts but yours is just lovely! Wonderful work, thanks for sharing!
I'm a BIG fan of scrappy quilts and love this pattern! You did a wonderful job on it. Is it one of Bonnie Hunter's patterns?
Beautiful.

OOOOOW, aaaaahhhh!
I love it! Can I be your sister, too? |
It is beautiful! And it's almost a steal at such a cheap quilting price. I usually pay that for a twin size. I love the idea of sewing the border to a sheet. You should be able to find easy instructions on google!! I made a bedskirt...so you can too!!
Wow, it's great. I love scrappy the best. But you hubby is only half there. (So when he forgets all his errands, you'll know it's because he's half there!)
Gorgious quilt. You did a very nice job on this!
OMG it is beautiful..nice job! I love it!
Beautiful!
That's a beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you have one of the beds that's about 2 feet high?? We have one that you practically need a ladder to climb up. I hate making it!! My DH wanted it so he has to help me make it up. The mattress doesn't budge to tuck in the covers w/o help UGH :D |
It's lovely, well done.
I love scrappy too. It's the only way you can make a king size and not spend a fortune. Super duper job, girl !
All I can say is WOW! Beautiful.
I'm a bedskirt person as I don't like quilt too heavy & going to the floor. I have to be able to stick my feet out when I get too hot. You can use a piece of muslin to make the bedspring cover part & then make a dust ruffle with some fabric used in your quilt. The kind with a pleat every 8-10" vs. gathered would probably be my choice to go with your quilt.
Great job! I have that border fabric, too. It's possibly my favorite fabric in the whole world!
$129.00 to quilt a king-sized???!!! I asked a co-worker how much the woman who does her quilting would probably charge to do a quilt my students and I made for our 2010 school auction. It was about 56" x 72." She told me, "About $135." That was for a basic all-over design -- nothing fancy, just large stippling!!! To top it all off, my co-worker's daughter was in the class that made the quilt so you'd think she could have tried to get the quilter to reduce the price for our auction! I decided to let my students tie it which made them all very happy! She recently had a quilt done by a different longarmer and was charged about $35. This quilt looked to be about 45" square. She said that for a twin size quilt the woman would probably charge around $80. Again, just a simple, all-over design.

So sorry!!! I meant to tell you how beautiful your scrappy quilt turned out. I absolutely love it!!
Great job. I wondered in your title if you meant that your sister is scrappy.
Love it!
Thank you everyone for the great feedback on it. I am loving it on my bed! The bed I have is a huge king pillow top mattress and it IS hard to make. hhahahaha
I forgot to give credit to the lady I got the pattern from... http://www.quiltville.com/sisterschoice.shtml She has some great ideas on her sight. Where I have it quilted, I do get a great price. Considering I have been reading about prices at different parts of the country and out of the country. Might be a long time before I do another one this large LOL... |
Wow! It is gorgeous! Great job!
Wow, that is beautiful. I love the border fabric. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful quilt and soooooo BIG!
It is so beautiful.... You deserve a big pat on the back  |
Beautiful job. Looks like it was a lot of work.
Beautiful and so much work
Soooooo beautiful! I really love the scrappy look. I think for the bedskirt to use a solid, probably light color, and trim with a small border to match top border. Good luck!
Great job very nice quilt.
Just gorgeous! Finishing a quilt that size takes intestinal fortitude! Good for you!
That is beautiful, how long did it take you?
Wow: I'm impressed. The colour waves go so well :P :P .
Beautiful quilt!!! Great job!! Lots of pieces in that one!!! :-D
