"Finally" finished

Someone asked me to post a photo of Nadia's (GD-8 yrs old) first quilt when it was completed. She decided she wanted to quilt with some of the built-in fancy stitches. I think I made a mistake in letting her use those stitches as it pulled up the fabric somewhat. Anyway she did most of the work on this quilt, it's not perfect but I am so proud of her. This is a doll quilt for one of her American girl dolls and now she has picked out the fabric for doll # 2 a quilt!!! She is hooked!!!!

That is WELL DONE !!! RE: the pulling with the stitches.... i think it's great that you let her do it her way. That's how we (they) learn. Obviously she's been bitten by the bug since she is already planning her 2nd quilt !!!

You have every reason to be proud of your DGD. She did a great job.

My 6 and 8 year old DGKs are hooked also.

Beautiful :) both quilter and the quilt - wish I had someone to teach me - so awesome she is learning at a young age!

Doggramma 07-25-2014 10:39 AM

That's great! It's such a good idea to use the decorative stitches for quilting. She looks like she's loving it too!

Others probably asked, too, but I wanted to see the finished quilt. I just knew it would be well done as your granddaughter took care with the piecing. Congratulations to you and to her for a job well done.

maryb119 07-27-2014 10:13 AM

Beautiful girl and beautiful quilt! Great job, Nadia! I love to use my embroidery stitches as quilting stitches too. I think it adds to the quilt. Thank you for teaching her to sew. She will enjoy it for the rest of her life and remember you while she does it. You are creating your legacy.

quiltsRfun 07-27-2014 10:35 AM

She did a great job. And I'm glad you let her use the decorative stitches. After all, it is her quilt. ;)

matraina 07-27-2014 03:31 PM

Oh, how cute - both the quilt and the girl!

oldtisme 07-27-2014 06:24 PM

Aren't grand kids great! One of my grand daughters started sewing when she was 8 she hand sewed a pillowcase for my DH's knee pillow & started watching me teach myself to quilt & she started right up behind me. She's 13 now & has 5 small quilts under her belt. She does an awesome job of matching fabric from my scraps. Grandkids Rule! LOL

CAS49OR 07-28-2014 11:56 AM
