Dear QuiltE
Thank you so much..........especially for the good laugh!! I was not ironing the blocks at 2 a.m. I ironed Mr Granny`s shirts!!! lol My household is a complete mess. But even at the radio they tell the people to stay away from physical work whenever possible at this heat!? :-) We had again 35 degrees today and it does not feel much cooler at 10p.m. I bought a whole bolt of the white fabric and lots and lots of 1930`s fabrics, also on this board. At the time I started with the DJ I stopped buying new fabric and after a while DH was asking very concerned whether I had lost my credit card! :-) And he definately was not in awe, neither of me nor the blocks................he simply doesnt have a clue!! I might have to show him all of your kind responses. Granny Now you are giving me visions of the MrGranny going to work with an iron burn in the back of his shirt, with a suit jacket overtop. To help you, I could always send all these accolades to MrG via email and make his inbox overfloweth! I'm sure that will get his attention!!!! :) Now ... what are the plans for all those leftovers? :) Knowing you, it'll be a mini-DJ :) (email will follow and be ready for your morning coffee!:D) |
NO DJ Minis for sure, but I think 1930 call for traditional patterns and are great for Baby quilts.
No need to worry about it yet as I am not allowed to a new project: I have the big Dresden waiting for handquilting and the Kafee Fasset for machine quilting!? Sure look forward to my morning coffee |
beautiful work its gorgeous!!

Beautiful job. I love all the pastel colors. Nice work.
Absolutely beautiful!
I like your colors. The arrangement reminds of a barn-raising pattern.
Oh my goodness, this is no less than thunderstruck! I wish I had half your patience and an eighth of your talent!
just beautiful, both your choice and placement of colors and your designs! I have started the quilt myself, only 6 blocks so far but I like it!
Oh my, so this is why it's been kind of quiet from your corner of the world. Simply amazing, T! Simply amazing. G

Wow:)!!! Your DJ is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the soft colors. I also love that you put cornerstones in that relate to a block next to it....very creative and also soothing. I've been working on the triangles w/o much thought to color....just using up my cw prints....Hope it will turn out even 1/4 as nice as yours. Don't have many in the center done yet....but, I do have a trip around the world color scheme....we'll see. Thanks SO much for the inspiration. Just LOVE your quilt:)

This is so beautiful and is really making me rethink my civil war theme. As much as I love civil war prints. I know at the rate I'm going this will be my one and only Jane.
I'm amazed at how casually you speak of your work. Being even board with some blocks? I stress out on everyone. I think I would have enjoyed reading a diary of your step by step process. And having all your tips for each block. You have made this quilt seem so easy peasy to do. Maybe I should "think like granny" as I make my blocks! Thank you so much for sharing! |
OMG, your quilt is gorgeous. The colors you choose are gorgeous. You've done an awesome job so far so I'm sure you will finish this quilt with the same expertise that you've done all the blocks so far.
Awesome job. I got that far and then threw all the blocks in the garbacge, I don't think mine were near as nice as yours.
Absolutely stunning! You are a very talented and devoted quilter...This is a beautiful quilt!
Plus two... That is exactly what I was thinking. :)
[QUOTE=Murphy1;5449200]I am in awe. Your blocks are beautiful and I love your soft colors. |

I tried to make the Farmer's Wife quilt blocks which were 6 inch and found I was not very accurate so stopped. To create these 4 inch blocks is really an accomplishment. Thank you for posting. I look forward to seeing your post when you add the triangle border. What an heirloom. Love it.

Absolutely my favorite dear jane, amazing color choices, so much better than the standard choices. I doubt I will everattempt a dear jane, not intersting to me, but maybe if there were more like this one, I would have to change my mind!
Exquisite color placement. Congratulations on such a beautiful accomplishment.
I totally love your color choices and your layout blows me away. It's the best one I've seen! Right away I could see the outer triangles in the prints as you mentioned. In my mind they match the blocks in color that they are next to so that shading effect is repeated in the triangles around the outer border of the quilt. The prints are not necessarily the same just so the color value is.

i agree that the plain triangles should be something other than white. i've seen them match the color of the block nearest to it. |
I want to do one so badly but want a quilting buddy to do one with me and I can't get any takers. They don't want to invest the time it takes and I know it takes lots and lots of time. Your blocks are wonderful, I am in awe.
I love the colors making a sunshine and shadow design. It is amazing! Can't wait to see it all together. I have only made block 1! I will continue to work on it, you have given me hope that I will finish one day!
So very pretty! Your workmanship is excellent, and the colors and layout you chose are super! Am looking forward to seeing this get closer to being finished! :)
Thank you all so much for your coments! I like the idea that others might start or continue their DJbecause of this thread.
Whenever I had a hanger I went to this board to look at each and every DJ post. :-) I started to sew the blocks together and can say for sure, that this will be my first and my last quilt top with half inch sashing and cornerstones............and I will have even more time than I thought to think about the fabric for the triangles! Granny |
I just looked at the layout again and the darker block in the center is in the perfect spot. Ones eye is drawn to the center because of the darker hue, but the "arrows" in the "shoot" your sight to the concentric "circles" of color. Wish I could see this IRL:) G

You know where to find me and you are very welcome at any time! :-) The center block is not quite as dark in real. I collected 1930`s prints for more than a year and the great thing is that most of them coordinate. I started with purple in the middle. First round in medium purple, second light purple. Then blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Also first row medium color, second light, orange only one row. I started to sew the blocks together and it is terrible tricky to get accurate half inch sashings and corner stones......it will take me forever. I am sure glad I made each block with the according sashing and my experience with minis helps me with the cornerstones. Greetings, T. |
Beautiful, I have done a few of these blocks, but haven't gotten very far. Love how yours is turning out, great job!
simply beautiful
Love your soft colors and placement of them. Look forward to seeing the finished product. Hang in there.
I LIKE the way you arranged the colors. great idea! i can picture allthe hours you spent on the blocks. what a keep sake.
All of the good descriptive words have been used already....so i will just say WOW !! and Congratulations !! I think given your incredible work and obvious color savvy - you will make the best possible choice for the triangles. Please please be sure to show us the finished quilt.
I keep looking at it! Your quilt is gorgeous!!! :)
