Well, I finished and washed the new little baby quilt. Ask my kids how amazing this is...it's already done and the baby's not due until October! The baby shower is in August...but I'm still way ahead of schedule...so not like me! ;-)

After asking y'all what to do about a tiny hole in the quilt...I decided to do an applique over it just to make sure it would wear well...even though I did use fusible on the back of the hole first.
I may still add a few more just for fun...but I don't think I need to, really. The quilt's so busy the little patch won't be noticed much...at least not by a small child!

But I went a step further...decided to make a softie elephant to go with one of the characters in the quilt. Nice touch, huh?! Just need to get some strong embroidery thread or something like that to sew the eyes and it'll be all done! Thanks so much for all your collective help with all stages of this quilt! This makes my 4th completed quilt! Now, what kind of trouble can I get into next?... lol! On to my next project!

The quilt...check out the soft flannel backing...I was shocked I could find fabric that matched the quilt so perfectly!

The elephant...he's 2 sided!

Thank you! And yes...I can hardly wait...even though this will be Grandbaby #2! Our first is a girl...and this will be her little brother! They'll be 2 years apart. Should be soooooo much fun!

Cute quilt. Fabric is so fun and lucky for you to find the backing in flannel that goes so well. Your little stuffed elephant is a great touch.

Love it!! I bought the same print as fleece and made a taggie blanket. Very cute pattern!

Jazzmyn 06-29-2011 11:17 AM

Cute quilt love the bright colors. For the eyes you could get fabric paint and paint them on or just use regular embroidery thread...just a thought there.

Kas 06-29-2011 11:19 AM

Great job! That is really great and your elephant is just adorable, too!

Janet L52 06-29-2011 11:25 AM

irishrose 06-29-2011 12:13 PM

Adorable. Do you have any button thread or upholstery thread to sew on the eye? Those are very strong.

ROTFL!!!! For his sister...who will be 2 at the time of his birth...I didn't know how to quilt at the time and so I crocheted and knitted blankets, made a quillow, upteen softie toys, dresses galore...lol! Looks like I've got a pattern started here, huh?! ha! And get this...before she was born...I barely knew how to use the sewing machine!!! Having had 3 boys...I saw no need to sew for them...nor did I really have the time. Now that I'm not working, I've made peace with my sewing machine...and we work fairly well together! ;-)

No, but I just got back from Hobby Lobby and purchased some embroidery thread. One is the regular kind and the other is even thicker than that. I'll have to see which works the best I guess.

feffertim 06-29-2011 04:23 PM

your applique is perfect, covers the hole beautifully and looks like it was meant to be there. Good job. Love the softee too
