This last week I made a table runner, 4 placemats and 4 napkins for a local school auction. ( just finished today)
These blocks were actually blocks I was going to throw away..but decided to put them in a table runner to donate b/c unless you are a quilter you wont see that they don't match up! I used scraps to make everything...

I actually took a class where the lady was teaching this block ..but didn't have the right dimensions ( that is why none of the blocks lined up so I put the sashing and cornerstone in the middle to hide the imperfections some) and none of us know the name of this block..if any of you know what it is or where I can find it ..that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!

This is the table runner I donated to the school auction today.

This is the placemats..of course all napkins and placemats were different because they were scraps..but I forgot to take a picture and then called the gal I gave them to --to send me the pictures of them..hehe...so I don't think this is the prettiest one..but hey they are perfect gifts! I also made a gift bag for all of it to go in ..for shopping..didn't get a picture of that..I hope it helps the school.

Thanks I will try to look that up! I love the block but need the right specs on it so I can make it properly--these were so off and and didn't match up--hard to quilt once i got them in runner as well...

Thanks to everyone!

Quilt4u 10-29-2009 07:25 AM

Jim's Gem 10-29-2009 06:41 PM

They look great. Hope they bring in lots of money!

omak 10-29-2009 10:10 PM

Good job!
Your pattern almost looks like nosegay, doesn't it? or Tulip something ... or ... someone was trying to sell you a new ruler? (I am such a cynic! LOL)
The question about the title of the block is an interesting one, though, because how DOES one go about finding the name of a quilt block?
I mean! I have books with THOUSAND blocks and not all the blocks are in there, and look at Quilter's Cache ... has anyone ever known how many blocks Marcia Hohn has provided from both traditional, historical and her OWN design?
Maybe a hint as in: It is x-amount of squares by x-amount of squares ... or looking under quarter square patterns?
I am not a very good researcher <g> ... but, sometimes, I can point people in the direction they can go!

Well it was a block Thelma from the quilt shop had made years ago but nothing matches up--someone said earlier in the post that it is a braced star....and that is very close..although a bit different...anyway..I just thought of someone recognized it I could get the pattern in some way because I love it if it works...otherwise I will just use the braced star pattern.

thanks for helping though.....

omak 10-29-2009 10:21 PM

Have you checked in Eleanor Burns' book "Stars Across America"?
and, I am thinking ... maybe in that GRandma's Big Book of Blocks I might find it ... I will go look before I go to bed, and if I find something in my stuff, I will bring it in to the shop tomorrow ... then, we will share it with the board ... then LOTS of people will know what you know! LOL

charismah 10-29-2009 10:30 PM

YEs--I have Stars Across America..I love that book--I just made a block swap star out of that one...no it was from a book years ago that she had..and she got rid of it somehow.....Cindy have been trying to figure out the block and maybe making a paper peicing pattern from it....but we are struggling....I have a peice of one of thelma's patches..I can bring in tomorrow.

charismah 10-29-2009 10:37 PM

Omak,
I am wondering if you have a book with doll quilts patterns? While you are looking through things?? I just need a few names ( authors) I can look at the store or order one...I currently only have one pattern...although I could make some sketches of my own?? The only one I have currently is a christmas one..which would be fine for my December one...but looking to expand. thanks! Did I tell you how much I love this board?? OR can you tell because I am on here all the time!

SulaBug 10-29-2009 10:55 PM

I am so glad you found your way here!
This is an exceptional board, to say the least!
No, I don't have any books on making doll quilts, though there is a book here that shows up on the pages of the doll quilt swaps, created by one of the quilters on this board, no less!
A DQ is an excellent opportunity to practice new blocks and techniques. If I happen to find one before I hit the rack in the next few minutes, I will pm you the contact information ...

WHich program did you use? Or are you just really good with microsoft windows.
I tried once with word, and in the end, I didn't care any more! LOL
That was really nice.
I wonder what Charismah will think, if it will work for her!

Bevanger 10-30-2009 06:29 AM

This is a quilt that uses a block called Turkey Tracks.
When I went to quilters' cache, her tracks are more angled as are most of the samples, however!
I went through my grandma's full-sized quilt pattern book and found TWO blocks that may fill the bill.
I will bring it in today for you to look at.

mickey 10-30-2009 07:09 AM

if you have Windows click on the word download and it will open in word

if you go into your computer accesseries you can open the first one in paint

omak 10-30-2009 08:07 AM

The first one opened up just fine, but the second one wouldn't download ... since my computer pitched a fit the first of September, nothing seems to work the same ... I just figure I probably don't need to know ... LOL
