I made this quilt to be raffled at my husband’s family reunion. Hope to raise money toward the next year. Not sure how to do it as I have never had any experience with raffling one. Would hate for it to go for $30.00…. because of the money invested and time.

I have a lady that machine quilts all of my quilts Her quilting covered my lack of experiments. This was my first to place on point and was a challenge for me. It is a teal color but looks blue from the photo. The embroidery designs are Jacobean flowers and I used teal thread.

My goodness, your quilt is beautiful!! :D I have never raffled anything, so I can't help you with that part. I just had to let you know how much I liked it!! :D :D :D

Your quilt is stunning!! Beautiful job!!!!!!!

patricej 03-17-2009 12:31 AM

that's a beautiful quilt. anybody would be lucky to win it. :P :P :P

Decide how much you want the quilt to earn toward the reunion fund. divide it by the number of households who will be represented at the reunion. whatever the raffle ticket price comes to, remind everybody that it's for family, for fun, and for a one-of-a kind work of fabric art.

I agree with what Patrice said.

I know my family would love it. Thats a good looking quilt and you did a great job :D

pocoellie 03-17-2009 03:36 AM

It's very pretty!! The embroidered flowers are perfect. Sorry I've never done a raffle without selling a lot of tickets. Maybe instead, do a silent auction, putting a minimum bid.

gcathie 03-17-2009 05:35 AM

That is really pretty.....maybe you could put a starting bid on your quilt.....sometimes nonquilters have no clue....just cause they can go elswhere and buy a quilt at other stores for very little doesn't mean yours should go for that......Hope you get what you want out of it regardless!!......:-)

Beautiful Quilt. Someone is going to be very lucky! In my family that wouldn't be me  LOL I have only donated quilted tote bags to raffles. I just let the organization handle the raffle part so can't help there.

Debbie1 03-17-2009 06:11 AM

Beautiful Quilt

Barbm 03-17-2009 10:29 AM

Gorgeous! When we do our raffle we do: 1 ticket limit at $5.00 each.

We manage to make enough to cover meat, paper products and drinks for the next year.

Everyone fights over the quilt. This year will be the 5th year I made one. I never win them but I love to make them. My skills implrove each year and I can see it in the pictures. They all know I am not a professional and each quilt is made with love for our family. They love me anyway. :)

Good luck!

Harmony 03-18-2009 07:59 AM

Your quilt is beautiful! I don't think you have to worry about it going for $30. Anyone would love to have this!

AtHomeSewing 03-18-2009 08:43 AM

That is a beautiful quilt, and someone is going to be VERY luck to get it!

As for raffles, I handled them a few times for my non profit clubs. What I found was that we sold a LOT more tickets by subtly "suggesting" more tickets. For example, offer one ticket for a dollar OR seven tickets for five dollars, something along those lines. After all, we didn't care how many chances an individual had to win, the goal for the group was to take in the most dollars possible. Often people think in terms of buying one item, however when offered a chance at a deal for more than one, often they will. It simply does not occur to them to buy multiples. Remind them that they receive a far better chance at winning with more tickets and that it is a fundraiser for a worthy cause. This worked for our club. We changed our fundraiser totals from one year to the next from $200 to $600 with this method.

Good luck, if I was there I'd be buying a bunch of tickets for that quilt![b][b]

RedGarnet222 03-18-2009 09:11 AM

How come we can't buy tickets too? I would get in on this one for sure! I love teal and your work is just lovely.

Rhonda 03-18-2009 09:15 AM

Beautiful!!

Katrine 03-18-2009 09:29 AM

Gorgeous quilt - I would buy a book of tickets if I was there!

Shemjo 03-18-2009 09:36 AM

What a beautiful quilt!
We do raffles at church and sell them for $1 each or 7 for $5. That is not enough for a family reunion group though. At least $5 each, and maybe 5 for $20
I like Patrice's suggestion.

sewnsewer2 03-18-2009 01:29 PM

Are you sure you want to raffle THIS ONE off? You really put a lot of time into it.

I would keep it and make another one to raffle off. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL!

SewSew2 03-18-2009 03:46 PM

. I thank each for the wonderful compliments and suggestions. I will certainly be using some of your suggestion on a price start.

I have been sewing for four years and have so much to learn and easily intimated by the beautiful work you guy do. I am just now getting a half way accurate 1/4 seam.....being a great challenge for me.

From your kind comments toward my quilt it give me encouragement to continue growing.
Beth

Your quilt is lovely. We had such a quilt some years ago at our reunion and sold chanches on it as people arrived. Don't recall the amount raised but remember it did well. We have a member of the family who now does scrape books with family pictures and the last one brought about $350. at the reunion auction.

Marcia 03-19-2009 02:23 PM

Beth-your quilt is fabulous!! Wish I was in your family!!!

I agree with others that you should sell your tickets for at least $5 each and maybe go 5 for $20. I do not think you will have any trouble selling tickets!!!

Evelynquilts 03-19-2009 02:27 PM

beautiful quilt...

Carol W 03-22-2009 07:55 AM

Beautiful!!

mpspeedy 03-22-2009 09:27 AM

I agree with Patrice. I wouldn't sell the tickets for less than $5 each. Try to make it a competition between heads of the various families to see which family purchases the most tickets. Hopefully some of your members will realize how much a quilt is worth.

beachlady 03-22-2009 09:32 AM

That is a beautiful quilt - hope your family is large!!! I definitely would put a minimum on it.
