Becky one of our members encouraged me to post my finished quilt. I have only been making quilts for two years and only make the tops. When I look at others work I am a little intimated as I see some beautiful hand work. All mine is done by machine even the embroidery. I send my quilts to a lady in Louisiana that quilts them with a long arm machine. this is her work.
Becky keeps me encouraged and reading others post has helped me step out of the box.
Thanks Becky.

Beth your quilt is beautiful. Do not be little your work. You do great work. I love it.

I started out quilting and doing hand piecing and hand quilting. I still enjoy hand quilting but as I age it becomes harder for my hands. I swore when I finished my grandsons Veggie tale quilts I would never hand quilt again. BUT the itch is there. Will probably dive into one again. I have known women around here who never take their quilting frames down. They hand quilt year around.

I was never much of a fan of machine quilting until just recently. I saw one the others day that took my breath away. It was a Mariners Star that had been pieced 25 years ago. It was awesome the work they did on it.

I like the way yours is done. Perfectly sets off the embroideried squares. The border too.

Keep up the good work.

Congrats, Beth--your quilt is beautiful! I love your choice of colors on the sashing, it compliments the flowers and leaves perfectly. Excellent job!

Beth

Your work is beautiful, To me it reminds me of some of the quilts that I've seen when I go to the Mts, in N.C, and Tenn, Those are my favorite spots, And I'll go into quilt shops and Antique shops and Gift shops and I see quilts and I stand and admire their work, and get ideas too. It's really a very pretty quilt and the art work is beautiful. You go girl, and keep up the beautiful work, Your box just exploded, Love it, Love it, Love it.

Beth, I am sooooo impressed, your quilt is beautiful! You have a right to be proud. It brought a smile to my face. Very nice. :D

I am also impressed by your willingness to give credit to your quilter. We have customers at the shop, who purchase panels, add borders and then leave for Pam to quilt and for me to bind. These ladies brag about the number of quilts they have made. You put alot of work into your creation, yet wanted us to know someone else did the quilting. Quilters are a very sharing lot, and I am proud to be part of this group. Quilter's Rock!

Your quilt is beautiful, and the work is also yours. :)

Marilyn 12-10-2006 04:43 PM

Beth, your quilt is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. Stand tall and be proud.

Would you mind telling us who you use for the quilting and how to get in touch with them? I've quilted all my quilts by hand, but it doesn't allow me to make many tops (which I also enjoy doing). So one of these days I'll need someone to quilt at least some of my quilts.

Thanks to each of you for your kind words. Learning has been a challenge, my first hurdle was to make a straight stitch and second cutting accurate sizes. Needless to say that has improved a wee bit, even with all the mistakes I kept going. My best friend was my seam ripper and a few quilts were worn thin from all the ripping that had to be done. There was times I put it down and said that was it.... no more for me. Then the next day I would be back with determination to not let it beat me. Each quilt has become a little better but have not stepped out on any real complicated one.
I am glad Becky talked me into posting the picture on the board as your kind words have inspired me to never quit.

Beautiful! Beautiful! You deserve every accolade you are receiving from all you your new fans. Job well done. Thank you for sharing.

Marilyn,
I use a long-arm quilter in Newport, PA. She just quilted a queen-sized quilt for me and I am absolutely thrilled with her work. If you want, I can provide you with her name and number. I will use the "Private Messages" listed above with this information. Suzanne

Your quilt is beautiful. I want to know who quilts for you. I have 5 quilts ready for the machine, but don't know where to send them. Will you share your info? I live in Bay City, TX.

slpalmer 01-27-2007 12:06 PM

Hi, I just started making quilts 4 years ago but I am very slow because of a disability. I have been reading your posts and I didn't know you could have someone else do the quilting part, how much does it cost? lets say for a queen size. I know it probably depends on where I take it but could I get a general idea?

thanks, Shara :?

kathy 01-29-2007 04:28 AM

I've only had one done my a professional quilter but her rate were from a penny to a nickle per inch, depending how detailed of a design you choose. I chose my design before I asked the price and it cost me 283.00 for a queen size. that was 3 or 3 1/2 cents I forgot. I was very pleased with her work and it was a top that my mother made so it was worth it but next time I'll get an estimate first.

slpalmer 01-29-2007 02:24 PM

Thanks for your replies, I think I will try it by machine, $283 is a lot of money, I'm sure it looks great but I can't afford anything like that.

I did a dresden plate quilt and had it professionally quilted and was charged $138.00 and her quilting MADE the quilt! She stippled it around the Dresden Plates and put a rose in the center of each of the circles in the plate. The stippling with the rose in the center made the plates "jump out" of the quilt. It's gorgeous and well worth the cost of having it quilted. The long arm quilter asked me what kind of quilting I wanted done on it and I told her to do what SHE thought would look the best. She sure did!

Randy, I just love your dresden plates. Great job!

Harmony 05-29-2008 06:55 PM

Your beautiful embroidery makes this quilt very special. Be proud of yourself--machine or no machine, you are an artist!

Lois-nounoe 05-29-2008 07:10 PM

I just love the feminine look of the embroidered blocks! So Springy looking! You did a wonderful job of the sashing and corner stones as well as the borders and binding. The colors are beautiful. I also like the dresden plate quilt. I like applique and the quilting is great! I do my quilts with hand quilting. Trying to learn machine cause there is no way I could even think of having someone else do it. I would have to sell my Hubby for the cost of it! (and I would miss him in a month or two anyway.)

jbsstrawberry 05-29-2008 08:36 PM

Beth, absolutely beautiful quilt!! I'm so glad that this thread was bumped, I hadn't had the pleasure of seeing your beauty before. Its just gorgeous!!!

ScubaK 05-29-2008 08:40 PM

Beth,
Is it expensive to have some one quilt your quilts?
I haven't made anything too large that I cannot quilt myself by machine and I don't do very intricute stuff...
I think that I would be inspired to try more difficult quilts and larger quilts if I could afford the quilting/finishing of them...
Any advice...
Thanks,
Kirsten
