This rag quilt was a lot of fun to make. the block size is 8 1/2 - love that no binding is needed, once you put the last row on its done...I used up so many scrap batting pieces. So glad I found a use for them and I did not throw them out. Now to figure out what to do with the scrap minkie pieces. My next to figure out if I want to piece together a backing for my sons quilt of do something with all of the scraps I have and clean out sewing room...agian.:)

Best.Rag.Quilt ever with all that minkee!

raynhamquilter 10-20-2012 08:32 AM

It's gorgeous! Was it hard working with the Minkee?

GramaLaura 10-20-2012 08:38 AM

Best rag quilt ever!!! Great colors........it must be sooooo soft :)

crafty pat 10-20-2012 08:54 AM

That is such a pretty quilt great work. My DD sent me a photo of a rag quilt and ask if I could teach her to make one, she really does love them. I have never made one but guess I will now.

LoisM 10-20-2012 08:55 AM

It looks soooo comfy cozy!!

fleurdelisquilts.com 10-20-2012 09:18 AM

When I see Minkee I think "soft" I love the feel of it but hate sewing it.....it's too mushy. I hope you put lots of stitches in....I can see her dragging this around everywhere. It will need lots of washings.

Minkee is really easy to sew...no issue except the amount of lint it left in my sewing machine and on me. good thing I get free once a year from my sewing machine dealer for 10 years...it needs it...good thing I keep the bobbin case out and cleaned it.

cowgirlquilter 10-20-2012 01:08 PM

So warm and cuddly looking! Love this!

mountain deb 10-20-2012 02:11 PM

My first thought in using up small scraps is to make raggedy scarves. Maybe cut them into 3 1/2 in. strips and randomly sew together. If long enough tie a knot in the end or whatever.

Ritaj 10-20-2012 02:18 PM

Oh, I like this. Looks so comfy and warm. Not something I plan on trying, but you sure did good job.

barri1 10-20-2012 02:19 PM

cat2quilt 10-20-2012 03:44 PM

It is a very bright and cheerful quilt. It looks very warm and appealing.

carolaug 10-21-2012 01:52 AM

When maing a minkie rag quilt here are two suggestions that will make it easy. 1. use left over batting from quilts. Its the perfect thickness and it will also help keep the minkie stable. (I use warm and natural). 2. use a walking foot and everything...start to finish. It really is a simple quilt to make. You can also use the june taylor for the fringe. I use to use that when making scrafs. The is a utube some where how to do it...you can cut the blocks prior to sewing them together. no scissor cutting.

carolaug 10-21-2012 02:56 AM

If you are making a rag lapsize quilt for an adult...I recommend 8 1/2 blocks 5 across and 7 down - I only did 6 and it does not cover the toes. One nice thing about rag quilts you can make it bigger even after you have washed and dried. hmm...now that is a thought...add a row every few years. crib quilt, twin size than queen...LOL

Oh that is very pretty and must be so SOFT! Use those scraps or give them to another quilter who will, because the tiniest piece of minki is worth saving.

PKGranny 10-22-2012 06:55 AM

What did you use for the backing? I have a charm pack of minkie light as well as lots of scraps of batting and will use that for a baby quilt. Thanks for showing such a pretty soft-looking quilt.
