It's just the top. I'm hoping to have time to finish it before we leave for the states on April 30. After I posted my smaller one (finished quilt) to FB, one of my older FB friends said that she would love it in king size. I know that she is just dreaming (she lives in a Mennonite area of KS) but I also knew that I would try to finish one and bring it to her. They are retired pastor and wife from KS and I would love to present it to them when we visit their church in May. We'll see if I can finish it in time.

This couple has always lived a very conservative lifestyle and I know that they've not always had the money to do/go places that other pastors in their area have had.

If I have time to finish it before we leave, I'd love to give it to them as a gift and appreciation for their years of service. It's 112x94", however, though I think I need to make it a 6x6 layout instead of 5x6. :(I guess I could just take off the edge and add 6 more blocks on the side.)

Does anyone here have a King bed? Would a square quilt be objectionable? My chart (a chart I made) tells me that a king size is normally between 104-120" wide and 110-118" in length. This would mean that a 112" square quilt would be technically okay. Is it?

Square quilts work fine on king size beds. You have done a fantastic job on this! Hope you get it done.

Gorgeous quilt!

justflyingin 04-09-2013 05:25 AM

I wanted to say that I've not promised it to her.

She doesn't read QB, I'm sure :) and it should be a complete surprise if I make it on time. So,....if I don't make it, I'll take it next year as my child nr. 3 will graduate from college NEXT May ('14) and we have to go back to the states again then.

But I'm trying to make it on time so I'll get off the internet and get back to work for the next half hour til I have to go somewhere....!

SewCraftyGirl 04-09-2013 05:25 AM

I don't have a king and can't comment on the size, however, I wanted to tell you that your quilt is amazing! I love all those little pieces and the final look when using lots of little pieces. I have been too intimidated to try something like that so far... I need more work on sewing a consistent 1/4 inch seam. I am in awe with quilters who can do it so well.

Thanks for sharing your photo.

oooh, I love that a lot.

heart of Dixie 04-09-2013 06:08 AM

Oh bless your heart. Its beautiful and so much work, but sometimes it doesn't seem like work when your doing it out of love. I have done several king and the 112 square would work.

MartiMorga 04-09-2013 06:17 AM

I don't know about the king size bed, but I like a quilt to be on the larger size so it covers the sides of the bed, you know hides the sheets when you make the bed. I love your quilt and I pray you will get it done in time to take with you. I know that your friend is just going to go crazy for it!

amyjo 04-09-2013 06:19 AM

My king size quilts all measure out at 110 x 110. That includes the drop to the floor on the sides and with pillows. Then it is big enough to cover someone on both sides of the bed, which is what my kids wanted and everyone else that got one wanted also. Then you don't need a bed skirt on the bottom. By the way, I just love your quilts.

The quilt top is beautiful but the motivation behind it is more lovely even than the quilt. Wonderful.

Since I've not promised it to her, I'm not feeling an undue amount of pressure--it's just a goal I set for myself--not sure if I can make it. I don't watch tv so I think I have more time than some. But the internet...if I just can keep away from spending so much time on line, I'll be fine, I think.

justflyingin 04-09-2013 11:47 AM

I did manage to get the components of the blocks together today--and hopefully I can get the 6 blocks put together tomorrow. I had some leftover parts from the original construction--so it wasn't like I had to totally start over cutting, etc.

Jingle 04-09-2013 12:57 PM

Gorgeous, love all your wonderful work on it. They will dearly love it.
