Some of you may remember the quilt I made my dd using all her old scrub tops. I finally quilted it and it's officially done! I put off quilting it untill I felt comfortable with freemotion feathers. They aren't as good as I would have liked, but overall I'm satisfied...What do you think?

sharon b 06-20-2010 01:55 PM

Sorry I don't remember  Where they her tops ?

Looks good to me

A scrub top is the shirt part of a uniform worn by most hospital employees that are involved in patient care. Originally scrubs (as they are called by those who wear them) were only worn by the staff of the surgery dept. and by the staff in obstetrics. The past few years have seen more and more personnel wearing this type of uniform.

Scrubs are what the girls wear in Doctor's offices and in hospitals. Loose fitting tops and pants or lab coats. They come in lots of fun prints and solids. I just sold all of the ones I had left.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-20-2010 06:06 PM

My daughter sent them to me a few years ago for her dd who was living with me at the time. As it turned out when my dgd left, she didn't want the scrubs and my dd didn't need them. I debated on selling or donating them and then :!: hit on the idea of making a quilt from them. I wish I could be there to see her face when she sees it.

craftybear 06-20-2010 09:23 PM

I know what my daughter-in-law will be saving for me in the future. She really goes through scrubs. Your quilt is beautiful!!! Who in the world would think this is constructed of scrubs! Again, beautiful and love the quilting. She should be very excited.

ScubaK 06-20-2010 10:31 PM

I learned mine by doodling, drawing the over and over again either on scrap paper or a white board.

you might try you tube, sorry I don't have a link. There a number of ways to make them, I use the one that works for me.

Swan Song 06-21-2010 04:59 AM

That is wonderful. :-) I have a stash of old scrubs I have put away for such a project. Some have the logos of the hospital I was working at on them. I want to incorporate those into the quilt to sort of trace my years as an RN. I really thought I would make it once i retire but if I wait for that day I may never get it made!

Tinabodina 06-21-2010 05:00 AM

Wonderful! and another great idea of where to get fabric to use! You should be very proud.

I got the book, "hooked on feathers" and practiced a lot on paper first, then on fabric. It's like anything else, practice, practice, practice. I am not satisfied yet, so I need a lot more practice. :-)

Martina 06-21-2010 08:05 AM

Cool! I have thought about doing this. In the thrift stores here there are always lots of super cute scrubs and I always thought they would make nice quilts! Sometimes they have dollar bag days, and I am just waiting to catch one of those days to stock up :) Your quilt is very pretty!

Jim's Gem 06-21-2010 07:00 PM
