My mom made these embroidery blocks 23 years ago. She asked me to finish them in a quilt for my grandbaby. But being that these were so old I didnt think they would hold up to being tossed around by a youngin. So for moms birthday, a few days ago this is what she got. Most of the reproduction 30's fabric I purchased from another board member McQuilter. Thanks for sharing your scraps! One mans trash is another mans treasure!

Didnt want to give it away I love the bright 30's colors.

How cutie! Great idea.

I'm glad your Mom is getting back her stitching! It would be too bad if the blocks were ruined by heavy infant use after all these years.
(Maybe Mom would add a note in her will leaving the quilt to the great-grandchild to enjoy later on. My MIL willed a king-sized quilt I made to DD.)

Where did you get the embrordiary squares. Are they hand sewn or machine? I am going on a long car trip and would love to have some hand embrordiary squares to put into a quilt. Any ideas????

asmmauer 02-01-2011 06:27 AM

Wow I love the way that turned out you have created an heirloom for your kids even though you made it for mom. It was made by two generations of women and will be past down one day, make sure your children know its history maybe put a little about it on quilt label .This is a very special quilt.

I made a label with the date the embroidery was done and by who, and then my name and the date I made the quilt.

Mom made those embroidered blocks 23 years ago by hand, they were already printed on fabric all she had to do was embroider by hand. I suppose you could google vintage embrodery blocks.
