Finished Top!

I have been hand piecing this quilt top for TWO YEARS and I'm finally done! Now for the quilting (another two years???). I don't think I'll be letting the kids use this one their blanket forts! Just thought you all might appreciate the photo. You have helped me along the way!

Tartan 01-05-2013 01:40 PM

Good gravy that's a lot of triangles! My hat is off to you for finishing your awesome quilt top!

Sapphire_Rae 01-05-2013 01:41 PM

Beautiful! Congratulations on the finished top.

eann 01-05-2013 01:42 PM

Love the colors and pattern! The best place for the quilt is on your bed or displayed for everyone to appreciate. Many hours of piecing, pressing, ripping(?). It's lovely!

sewingsuz 01-05-2013 01:44 PM

Oh my , This is beautiful.

mighty 01-05-2013 02:08 PM

Sew Beautiful, great job!!!!!!

KimmerB 01-05-2013 02:12 PM

All I can say is WOW, very beautiful! Love everything about it.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-05-2013 02:31 PM

Gorgeous quilt! I'd say two years would've been just about enough for me to finish the HST. Putting it together would've been another adventure.

TeriD 01-05-2013 02:50 PM

Wow, that is a lot of hand piecing! It turned out gorgeous!

alikat110 01-05-2013 02:58 PM

Perfect!!! :-):-):-):-):-)

SouthPStitches 01-05-2013 03:00 PM

OMG that's beautiful. So much work had to be done! That definitely is not fort-worthy!

0tis 01-05-2013 03:05 PM

What a wonderful "Ocean Waves" quilt - that is quite an accomplishment - I hope it doesn't take two years but it looks like its worth it.

dunster 01-05-2013 03:05 PM

Beautiful quilt, and what an accomplishment!

Do you mind if I ask why you decided to hand piece it? Was it for increased accuracy, or because you just enjoy hand piecing, or maybe for the experience or the challenge? I've thought about hand piecing a quilt sometime, just to see how it's done, but to undertake something so large and challenging just boggles the mind. Congratulations for a job well done.

MamaBear61 01-05-2013 03:08 PM

Beautifully done and handpieced I am very impressed, wonderful work.

TinkerQuilts 01-05-2013 03:10 PM

Beautiful quilt!!! and the fabric colors just make it pop and look three dimensional.
Very well done.

Grandma Peg 01-05-2013 03:25 PM

That is beautiful and looks like a lot of work, can see why they won't use it for a fort.

wattse2000 01-05-2013 03:32 PM

I do hand piecing because of all those things! I like the challenge, I like to have something to do while I'm watching tv, I like to be kind of "old-timey", and, although I didn't know it when I started, I can't do triangles by machine. I just cannot figure it out! I usually have a hand project (ot two) and a machine project (or two) going on simultaneously. This quilt really was not difficult - just time consuming and repetitive - but I knew it would be so cool when I finished. Now I feel like I've really accomplished something!

I wouldn't even start something with that many triangles. My hat is off to you, my dear!!! It's gorgeous!

What a beauty, my Mom hand pieced all her quilts too.

nannyrick 01-05-2013 04:14 PM

That is gorgeous!!!You must have a lot of patience to hand sew all those triangles. Love it.

Murphy1 01-05-2013 04:21 PM

How special, I love it. The colors make me think of the San Jose Sharks. Enjoy the next step.

DogHouseMom 01-05-2013 04:34 PM

Very nice. It would have taken me far longer than two years if I had hand pieced ... actually ... I would have given up after a few day :0

I love the depth the contrast creates.

Well done

pinkcastle 01-05-2013 04:53 PM

Jackie Spencer 01-05-2013 06:15 PM

That is a beautiful quilt. Don't see many quilts with that many pieces that are done by hand anymore. Congratulations on a job well done!!

gingerd 01-05-2013 06:26 PM

Oh my........2 years.......this is beautiful and congrats to you for finishing it!

Teddybear Lady 01-05-2013 06:29 PM

You certainly have accomplished something! Your quilt is beautiful. I started hand piecing the quilt shown in my avatar when my son was in high school...1998. I got tired of it and it's still waiting on me to get inspired again. I think I just wanted to be able to say I had hand pieced and quilted a quilt like my grandma Ruby. My other grandma, Frieda always did hers on the machine. Maybe I will finish the hand piecing on the front and just quilt it on my sewing machine in memory of both of them. haha Again, your quilt is stunning. Great job!

ghquilter53 01-06-2013 04:03 AM

Now that's alot of piecing...and it only took you 2 years. Beautiful quilt...blue and white can't go wrong.

JaniceP 01-06-2013 04:16 AM

Beautiful!

Dee G 01-06-2013 04:21 AM

How beautiful. What a great job and what a lot of work!!

JoyjoyMarie 01-06-2013 04:57 AM

That's a lot of hand piecing and the results are totally awesome! (I find that hand quilting goes fairly fast if I keep it near at hand to grab when I head to the couch for a sit - it also keeps me awake in front of the telly!)

judylg 01-06-2013 05:12 AM

That is very pretty and lots of work, I would put it somewhere special!

Krystyna 01-06-2013 05:37 AM

It's too lovely to wait that long to quilt it! Get to work!

QuiltnNan 01-06-2013 05:46 AM
