I joined the Sunbonnet Sue Swap back in January and committed to making 12 Sues for the month of March. I had never done applique before, so I was a little (read that A LOT) intimidated by the idea, but I love SBS so I wanted to do it. I looked at some U-Tube tutorials and some on here for applique and once I got into it I really enjoyed it. I made each one a little different, whether it was the colors or stitching or whatever. I've attached a couple. It was fun ... reminded me of playing with paper dolls.

Those are so cute, I want to do Sunbonnet Sue someday too. I know what you mean about the paper doll thing, my hubby
was just laughing at me the other night as I am working on an owl quilt, he said I was obviously too much of a tomboy when I was growing up (I was) and have gone back in to my little girl paper doll phase.

Deb watkins 06-30-2010 04:24 PM

They will fit right in with the rest of them that are running all over my basement.

awww those are so sweet, I love the sun bonnet sues but I am a bit unsure of making them. Maybe after I get my feet wet in hand sewing I may try a couple to see :)

Conniequilts 07-01-2010 06:03 PM

Gives me hope for when I try my first applique. Thank you!

watson's mom 07-01-2010 06:08 PM

I love SBS , who dosen't. You did a nice job with yours. I especially like the idea of changing even the stitching to make small differences in them. The ruffle on the one skirt is a nice touch also. Thanks for sharing.

#1piecemaker 07-02-2010 05:04 AM

Cute!! I made one but mine didn't have an umbrella. I love them. Your blanket stitch is perfect. Good job!

Oh my gosh, I have the same problem. I have so many beaut. patterns that I need to live another 150 yrs. to get to the ones I really love. I've been introduced to a cpl. of great pcs. on here recently that went to the top of my list.

auntiehenno 07-03-2010 01:58 PM

This is on my list. Nice.

gramquilter2 07-03-2010 03:42 PM

Your sunbonnets look terrific. I hope to do a machine embroidered quilt for my granddaughter using the Sunbonnet Sue/Sam pattern.

pennyswings 07-03-2010 05:42 PM

You did a wonderful job. Wish I could hand quilt on applique that well.

Bev 07-03-2010 07:31 PM
