I read all the replies and didn't see an answer to your question so I will try and help. I aim for 8 - 10 stitches per inch but personally I think it depends on the quilter, I am just counting the stitches you see as in - - - - - - - is 7 stitches. But when it comes down to it, consistency is far nicer that tiny stitches in my opinion. Mind you I am not a judge, I just enjoy the quilting part of it. lol

looks very nice. just keep doing it. quilt something, then later on, you will think,'wow, i did a nice job'. the best you can at any given time, is my borrowed moto from the DJ quilt CD by barb papa... hang in there.
AND 'better done, than perfect" also by her. |

Your quilting is great. Looks wonderful. Nice job. I began hand quilting on small projects like that, and it gets better with each project! I use a pvc-type hoop from Joann's, and I tried the size 12 betweens needle, but they kept breaking on me, so I use #11. I found the smaller the needle, the smaller the stitches became, so that's why I settled on the #11. When you hooped it up, did you punch down the center to relax the quilt in the hoop? That makes it so you can "rock" the needle, straight down, and then straight up, and so forth...I had a lovely lady show me how to hand quilt, couldn't get my arms around the technique, then after a bit started practicing.. Don't give up take baby steps! |
Simply beautiful!! Really!
