First Custom Quilt Job

5 Attachment(s)
I should start out by saying that I got my long arm for Christmas this past year so I am still learning. I have done well with pantographs and wanted to venture out. A friend of mine gave me this night and day quilt to work on. My hubby bought me a ruler set for our anniversary (in exchange for car parts for his 64 Chevy truck :) - anyways I tried it all out and was very happy with how it turned out. I did use an idea that greenfairyquilts showed on her sight. She is magnificent and I enjoyed trying something out she taught. I hope you like it.

The quilt is beautiful and so is the quilting. I am glad that you are feeling adventurous enough to try this. Very nice.

Looks like you did a wonderful quilting job on your first venture! Keep it up and you'll have lots of quilts to quilt for people! Beautiful!

You are living my dream. You did such a good job. I really like those diamonds in the border with the little cury-q's. I have a Juki & frame, but dream of a long arm. Are there classes that you take (besides practicing on your own) or books to learn from? And I'm in awe of the Green Fairy, too.

Tweety2911 09-19-2012 10:20 AM

Well done! I am still trying to get those curves even and yours are wonderful!

PenniF 09-19-2012 10:22 AM

You did a beautiful job - I have a longarm too - it looks so easy until you try it - its very difficult (at least for me it is) so I congratulate you - you look like an old pro - I love Green fairy too - I look at her quilts and just dream to have just a little bit of that talent. Looks like you are going to be a great long-armer...

redquilter 09-19-2012 04:40 PM

you both did a wonderful job. Looks to me like you've mastered the art.

joyce888 09-19-2012 05:05 PM

Very pretty. Your quilting looks great and I think it gives the quilt movement.

I am self taught. I do look at the internet videos to get help or suggestions and I am part of a long arm group here in South Carolina but I do it on my own.

It is not easy. It is hard and sometimes I get discouraged. I did use rulers for this and I have to tell you that I love using them and would recommend trying them. Just makes it a little smoother.

I got the beginner set from quilter's rule. I didn't really know what to get and it looked like it had so much variety. I used a couple of the rulers with this.

joellenc 09-20-2012 05:49 AM

What longarm did u get?

Helen S 09-20-2012 12:24 PM

It's wonderful! Looks like you're getting the hang of the LA.

Cindy60545 09-21-2012 02:50 AM

looks like your coming along quite nicely. You're definitely getting the hang of the rulers! I'm also self taught. Like you, I watch videos & read as many books as I can get my hands on. I now can look at different designs & break them down into manageable sections. It gets easier with time & practice.

aeble 09-21-2012 04:29 AM

Gorgeous work! Love how your quilting transforms the quilt.

Elfi2 09-21-2012 04:42 AM

gigi712 09-21-2012 10:01 AM

Two of my favorite colors displayed in a beautifully pieced and quilted quilt. You're doing great things with your long arm.

callen 09-21-2012 12:50 PM
