sueisallaboutquilts 06-14-2010 11:16 AM

Nice!!!!!!! I'm in the process of doing my first D9P !!
Just took a break to catch up here :D:D:D

kkbrand 06-14-2010 11:17 AM

How big are you planning on making it? Also when you cut your blocks out did you place them in all over areas or did you try to keep the set of 4 cuts together?

finch 06-14-2010 11:25 AM

I sewed 9- 5" charm squares together and cut them in half cross ways and then again length wise and just stayed with in the same block and moved the 9 pieces all around. There were 9 cuts together, not 4.I plan on making it into a queen size I guess.I am really not sure yet until I get the rest of the fabric. It was fun to make though!

kkbrand 06-14-2010 11:29 AM

What I meant is after you sewed your 9 blocks together you cut them in half lengthwise and cross wise - which gives you 4 blocks, did you take those 4 blocks and rearrange them and sew them back together to make a bigger block again or did you randomly place all the cut blocks all over the place?

Does this make sense?

finch 06-14-2010 11:34 AM

I stay within the same block and move them around. I used charm packs to make mine.

Great job! I'm in on the 9 patch project and plan to do a D9P too (my first).

gollytwo 06-14-2010 11:41 AM

Nice quilt - 5" my choice too.
I've seen a couple done with 6" or larger squares. Doesn't
come across well.

Kendrid 06-14-2010 11:43 AM

Very nice. Love the color combination you used. I have been wanting to make one of those quilts since I saw it a couple months ago. I guess I should just grab the fabric out of my stash and get cutting. :)

JudyNH 06-14-2010 11:49 AM

Super - I think I will use this pattern as my first quilt

Love it! This is so colorful, I'll bet you had alot of fun with this one. Great job.

finch 06-14-2010 11:53 AM

You will really enjoy making this.I did!! I sure will do another one and I usually do not like to do repeats. No cutting 5" squares with charm [packs and it moves along real quick.Great for a beginner like myself.

Rosyhf 06-14-2010 11:59 AM

I love, I need to control myself and stick to the present project.

finch 06-14-2010 12:05 PM

It is so easy to get sidetracked when a new idea hits you. That is why we have those darn ufo"s !!!

MamaBear61 06-14-2010 12:06 PM

Very pretty!!

ToucanSam 06-14-2010 12:12 PM

How many charm packs to make a lap quilt? Any idea? I don't have a clue but want to work on something that doesn't require reading a pattern, just sew, iron, cut, sew, iron....

Melinda in Tulsa 06-14-2010 12:23 PM

I bought a bag of 300 4" squares on ebay a year or so ago. Going to use this for my 9 patch project. What would y'all do, separate in lights, med & darks and just reach in and grab? Suggestions please!

The more I look at this beautiful quilt top the more I think this is the pattern that is in the Mystery Quilt on Eric's Homemade. Any takers?

Oh I love it. The colors are wonderful!

debbieumphress 06-14-2010 03:14 PM

Oh, I love it. A little confused how you used the 5" and put it together. I love charm packs too.
Hey Toucan - one charm pack comes with 42- 5" so I would think two of them would be plenty for a lap quilt.
I know how to sew 9 patches together and then cut horizotaly and vertically across the center. Just have to picture doing it in a larger scale. Thank you for sharing.

katier825 06-14-2010 03:22 PM
