First Finished Quilt- a baby quilt
3 Attachment(s)
This is my very first finish on a quilt. I had done some piecing previously, but never quilted or done binding. It's a baby boy quilt for a co-worker. I might try my hand at hand binding in future. I wasn't overly thrilled with the machine binding. I wonder if anyone has recommendations for marking pens or pencils. The chalk I used didn't wash out on the first wash. Anyway, here's the finished product.

Nice job on your first quilt. Whenever I need to learn how to do something new. I search for a video on Youtube.
It's a lovely quilt and will be appreciated. Keep up the good work.
good job on your first!!

Congrats at getting your first quilt done. What kind of chalk did you use?? There have been numerous posts here on not using color chalk. I use the purple be gone if the quilt is not going to be washed before being gifted.
Good job! Try Frisian pens for marking. I have not had any problems with them not washing out.
I like that a lot. It's a great blanket!
Cute quilt! I really like the red binding.
Congratulations. Now that you have the first one under your belt, looking forward to more posts.
Congrats on finishing your first quilt! Hope it will be followed by MANY more.
Congratulations on a lovely finish.
Congratulations! Job well done!

plain old, cheap white chalk works fine--but do not use "dust-free" cause it has an oil in it. I like the purple be-gone (air--so you can't mark and then leave on for very long) or the blue markers that disappear with water (a spray bottle works fine). I also really like the F & P ceramic chalk pen--fine line, and like most chalk you can use a nylon scrubby to get it off.

Congratulations on your first finish... some things take practice and machine binding has been one of those practice things for me... you're on your way.
Congratulations! It is an adorable quilt.
For a first quilt, you sure did a good job.

Cute quilt, I like the colors you used and it looks like the baby will be able to use it for a long time. Nice job!
It's a terrific quilt, colorful, simple and it looks so cuddly!!!
I cannot hand bind, so only machine bind. It does get better with experience. For a baby quilt, it might even be better, since it's very firmly attached. However, I know that some will disagree that it's better that way. There is definitely room for all of our methods on the quilt board. |
