Thanks for all the nice comments! I know that non-traditional quilting isn't everyone's thing, but, as long as we all keep creating some beauty in the world, we are all working towards the same goal!

Nanci! You're going to be so happy when you jump in there and get going! Your enthusiasm for it is contagious, and I think I will look for something else to dye, too!
Can't wait to see what you cook up!

Dixie - when I see quilts like yours I grow to like contemporary quilting more and more! I'm so impressed that you dye your own fabrics! The interplay between your backing fabric & front, with color, pattern and design, is lovely and well done!

Terrific quilt!

May I ask, what do you use to dye your fabrics? Any special treatments to make sure they are colorfast? Thanks in advance Dixie!

I used I-dye for this project. It's not as colorfast as fiber reactive dyes (Procion) which are set with soda ash. I chose the I-dye because I could get it locally and had used it for some other projects and was pretty pleased with it.
It did run off quite a bit of color when I washed it. I wish now that I had done a couple of washes before I had cut it and pieced it.
I'm still on the learning curve with the chemicals!

Thank you for the information Dixie! I'd like to get brave enough to try some artistic home dyed fabrics. Kudos to you!
