Well, I have finished my first Quilt for Kids project quilt. I am so excited! I think it has been 4 weeks since I received it, so I am not sure I will have time to finish a second one before my 6 weeks is up or not. I have a quilt for my BIL's 70th to finish before June 26th and haven't even started yet. So might just get this one on its way and then won't feel so pressed for time.
I must say this went together very easily, and it was awesome thinking about the pleasure and comfort it might offer to a sick little one.

Oh, forgot to say, the name is "Things that Go"

Back, fabric almost makes it a reversible quilt!

Great job, Nursie. I also only sent back the kit quilt. I have to get some kids fabric so I can make my other one.
You did a great job-your quilting is so straight.

Good to hear that someone else only sends back the kit quilt. I have a ton of kids fabrics due to a Craigs list buy and do plan on making more from my own stash, just short on time right now.

Thanks for the compliment. Actually there are some whoops places, but the bar on my walking foot was a huge help. They said they wanted densely quilted, so I tried to do that.

Don't know if it shows, but I used a variegated thread on the top and I really like how it looks, I will be using more of the variegated threads.

From what I have been told here on the board, you might get an email with a very gentle reminder, but nothing nasty. In addition, perhaps you could just shoot them an email letting them know that life has gotten complicated and that it will take you a little longer, but that you are working on it.

cjomomma 05-29-2010 11:59 AM

Those are totally awesome. What little boy wouldn't love them one.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how to quilt it at first. I think I will do close meandering on one of my next ones as soon as I get more familiar with my Juki and frame set up.

Some child is going to be very lucky to get that quilt. I'm sure that it will give them comfort.

Thank you. I hope a child finds comfort in it, but it is funny, I got such a sense of joy and fulfillment working on it I don't know who benefits more in the long run :)

eightylady 05-30-2010 07:39 AM

It's spectacular! But what are variegated threads...only for machine sewing?

I don't really know if the one I used would be appropriate for hand quilting or not. It was Sulky, cotton, 30wt. It was not one solid color, but rather shifted from light almost yellow to orange, then darker orange, almost brownish. Don't know if that makes sense or not.

KiwiQuilter 05-30-2010 01:47 PM

Beautiful quilt. I can imagine a young boy having many hours of fun with this gorgeous quilt.

nannya54 05-31-2010 05:10 AM

Great job and what a cute backing! That will surely comfort a child.

mimee4 05-31-2010 05:23 AM

So adorable. I have a kit just waiting to be made. Time is short in this household, too.

Thanks for sharing.

I love these quilts. I've made two. Waiting for my third. Quilting gives me so much joy. It's a way to keep quilting without feeling guilty about the expense.

sarahelloyd 05-31-2010 09:28 AM

lovely quilt, it is kind of you to go to that effort!

GrammaNan 05-31-2010 01:05 PM

The child that receives this quilt will be thrilled! The fabric and colors are so bright and vibrant. You did a fantastic job on this quilt.

quiltedlamb07 05-31-2010 01:13 PM

great job, love the cheerful colors.

dawn payne 05-31-2010 01:19 PM

Too much fun!

Ada Shiela 05-31-2010 01:45 PM

Nursie 76 - well done with your child's quilt, it's perfect.

EightyLady - as you may know, hand quilting threads are 100% cotton and much thicker than machine weights - Coats and Gutermann sell hand quilting threads in Oz but I haven't needed a variegated one so not sure if there are any. Thinking of all the twisting and twining of several colours that goes into in making variegated thread I doubt there would be one strong enough for hand use.
