First quilt... kinda

1 Attachment(s)
This is the first quilt I've ever finished myself! The binding is the first binding I've ever attempted. It's not very good, but it wasn't as hard as I thought. I didn't have enough, so I used other fabric on the corners. And it's too wide. Other than that, I am pleased with how it turned out. I've had the top for a while and haven't really liked it. The greens don't match and it had green borders on it. I took the borders off and replaced it with something with some color. I am not sure if I like it either, but it matches well. I started at 10:00 this morning and finished around 8:30 tonight with laundry and meals interrupting.

Very sweet. You did a great job.

you did an outstanding job.

dunster 12-18-2011 07:36 PM

That's very pretty. Isn't it a shame how laundry and meals interrupt what's important?

Cheshirecatquilter 12-18-2011 07:41 PM

It's a very fine beginning. Look at any tree or garden and you will see a variety of greens mixed together in nature.

It looks great, you should be pleased! Your binding can be any size you like, no quilt police here.

The feeling of completion- isn't it great :) Looks good

Very pretty. We are our own worst critics. Don't be so hard on yourself you did a really good job.

AshleyR 12-19-2011 02:59 AM

You're all too kind!
I washed it last night and found out why you don't want a wide binding! I'm going to have to sew it down again.

leatheflea 12-19-2011 03:49 AM

You did a great job on your first and the contrast is what makes it work.

AshleyR 12-19-2011 06:12 AM

Thanks everyone! I am going to put some FMQ in the white blocks. I wanted to get the "real" quilting out of the way and see how much time I had for FMQ. Since I'm giving it to my dad, I think I'll make a stencil of a screw driver/hammer or something like that.
I also need to add some quilting in the sunflower-border. The binding, because it's so wide, kind of flops around and needs to be stitched down more. No big deal. It was 4 inches wide; it was the border that I cut off. When it was time to attach it, I forgot everything I knew about binding.

CajunQuilter2 12-19-2011 06:20 AM

Looks PRETTY DARN GOOD TO ME!!!! Great job......

Wanabee Quiltin 12-19-2011 06:20 AM

I was expecting something quite different. This is very nice, you are being too critical on your quilting. Now that you have made such a lovely quilt, start another.
