Finally finished this wall hanging. Its called Chelsea and I found the pattern in one of Kaffe Fassetts quilting books. I took the liberty to change a few things though. In the original the flower stems were all standing straight up but I made mine swervy (?) as it seemed to give more movement. I also appliqued some of the flower heads onto the border and added three butterflies in the right hand border. Its my first attempt at hand applique and I must say I really enjoyed the challenge. The wall hanging measures 38" x 44".

Good job. I love hand applique! Your quilt is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l !!!!

That's so cool, Irish. I love the motion in the piece.
Kaffe Fassett's fabrics just make me happy. I love the vibrant colors and I especially love the huge scale prints. I've worked on several of his quilts that were published in magazines and books. The colors throb as if the flowers are actually alive. His work makes me smile and so does yours! :) |

Great Job !!!!! bopeep |
Congratulations, I too love to needle turn applique. Last week at my quilt club meeting we had a speaker who talked about thinking outside the box. I think that is just what you did by changing the stems of the flowers and going into the border with your design. Again - congratulations and keep it up.

Hard to believe that is a first attempt at hand applique. It looks great...good job. Making the stems swervy and having them going into the borders were good design ideas. Great job

I love the way you had the quilt continue into the border  Is the face in the leaf next to the red flower on the edge of the quilt ?

I am sorry, but when I took the photos and checked them in my picture folder the little face on the leaf was quite large, but, when I uploaded the pics in my post they came out a lot smaller, so that is why some of you can't see it. I have taken a closer one now so hopefully she will be visible.
