Our local quilters guild asks it's members to make a monthly block with a finished size of 9 and 1/2 inches. Since they didn't give us a theme this month, I chose something that I have never done before...triangles.They are as challenging as I anticipated but I think I did alright.
I was careful with ironing the seams to prevent things from getting too bulky but the centers where all the points converge are still pretty bulky. Is there any way to improve on that? It sure is fun learning new things! |
No tips, but looks great to me. Nice job.
They look beautiful.
Love the Block, great points... I have heard beat the center seam .
Lovely block! Great points! Well done!!
Very nice job, great points some people trim off that 1/8" point at corner of triangle some plastic templates already have them cutoff (I don't--my mom always left them on-more warm she said) then I'd want to find something to do with those ity bity pieces :)
Nice block!
very nnice work! Hope mine will look as well.
You did a wonderful job ... I have the same problem with the bulk.
Great job, I really like triangles you can do so much with them.
Looks good to me. Another idea for those easy HST blocks. HMMMMMM.......
You did a great job!
My quilt instructor at my LQS was showing a gal exactly how to avoid that bulk you are describing but I did not watch as I was working on something else. I will ask her on Tuesday when I see her again. Love your block though. Good job.
Great block - I beat mine.
They look perfect to me and such a great job for the first ones. I've heard of fanning them out at the center, I've not done it. Now I just avoid quilting over the bulkiness.
I press in a spiral pattern where the center lays open. Unfortunately do not know how to instruct how I do it, just do.
Somewhere on this site there is a sample of a technique from eleanor burns that explains how to help make that center seam flatter. Basically, you take 1 or 2 stiches out where the 4 seams come together and then fan the seam allowances out. wish I could help more, but you really need to see the photo. I had the same issue and the technique works great to give you a nice flat center.

I think you did great. Nice work on those points. They always give me trouble.

You did better than "all right" looks very nice and your points meet so well.
Great Job |
Yeppers, that is how Eleanor Burns does it also myself included....the link from mommamac
Very pretty and you did a beautiful job on them :D:D:D
You did a great job! Love that paisley fabric too :)
Since I did an OBW (one block wonder), I've been pressing seams open instead of to one side, where there will be a bunch of seams intersecting - I find that really helps :)
Press the seam open instead of to one side when piecing triangles. Well, that's what I've heard anyway
Look at those perfect points! Great job!
Lovely block!
It looks to me like you have triangles down pat! That is a beautiful block. The paisley fabric really works well.
Beautiful colors.
Nice job!
That Is Very Pretty Good Job!!!!!!

Nice work...and those points are done beautifully. With the bulky bits I kind of spiral mine out too...not very good at explaining, but you kind of ease it so it fans out.
To distribute the bulk better, press you seams in a circle, so that they all go away from each other.
