Several months ago Beverly posted a question if anyone knew how to crochet on fleece. Then along came an answer that there was a cutting disk for a rotary cutter from Linus Project. I had some fleece at that time so I wanted to try it out. Here are the photos. It sure made for an easy edge with holes for crochet. Thanx Bev, even though I can't find the original thread.
This fabric is for my giraffe loving daughter and my sometime future grandchild. This is the crochet edging. It goes really straight. Here is the gizmo that goes onto the rotary cutter. Then I made a "rag" blanket to match. |
Humm, I didn't know that. Thanks and great job!

Great idea! I'll be looking for one of those blades. Your quilts are very nice.
Where did you find the blade ? I have looked at Joanns and Hancocks and LQS with no luck

What a great tool. I love the way the finished quilt looks. Great job.
Both are absolutely darling.
What a great tool. And you did a very nice job!
Great job. Have to look into getting one.
I missplaced my cutter but found it yesterday, so I wanna get some yarn and try it. I sure like how yours turned out. WAY COOL!!!!!!!!! :D
That is so cute!!
Those are darling and very snuggly.
Thanks for the info and link.
I tried doing this without the tool. Gave up and just bought some fleece binding which is too expensive. The binding cost more than the fleece.
I have never heard of this tool. Thank you. |
Now You Know What you and Bev. went and done don't you? Now I have to learn to crochet. That is amazing. Gonna have to find that blade too. Never learned to coochet even though my Mom knowes how and my 2 DDS. Mom can't teach me now because of her eyes and the DD That lives up here in GA. with me is left handed. She says there is a way sitting behind me or something like that don't remember!!

I found the blades on the Skip Stitch site but not on the linus site.
Those are so cute!!! :D:D:D
Thanks for sharing the technique and tool with us!!! |
I have been making these for years but with flannel and cotton crochet thread. I cut a square yard of fabric, use a saucer and round the corners, then crochet around this for baby blankets. The mothers just love them.
I love your quilt! Ordered the tool! Now can't wait for it come it so I can find some to use it & make a quilt.
Ohhhhh! Those quilts will be hugged and loved one day. Where did you get the blade for the rotary cutter? I have looked all over for one.
Thanks for the info, I wll have to check into one of those blades
Should have said, I hope it comes with some simple instructions also!
Thanks for the link to the blades. I crochet and have several smaller baby sized blankets I did not want to fringe, but crochet an edging. Now I can without killing my hands and fingers.
The blankies look great. |

Nice quilts.
That sure is a handy gadget. I don't crochet but I know my younger sis would love it---good idea for a Christmas gift. Thanks for the info. ranger |
I love it :D :D :D I want it :D
I did the same thing except I went around the fleece one more time with a 5 double crochet shell stitch. I have just finished a zebra print with lime green yarn and am doing a zebra print with hot pink yarn. I also did a pink one and a blue one for babies and put their names on them. I don't know how to do pictures. I got mine from linus project.
I'm glad this post came back around. I FOUND my blade so now to try it
Nice
That looks great. I'm going to make a fleece blanket for my 6 yr old grandson who LOVES everything cuddly. I hate making all those knots for the fringe, though. This is exactly what I need. Did you use yarn around the edge or heavy cotton, and how many strands?

Thanks. I'm off to Joann's now with my coupons. I'll check there for that blade, but have also located it online, so I'm covered. Thanks so much for the tip about that blade.

Go back to my post on Page 2. That really makes a pretty blanket. |
Darn, I just wrote this reply then proceeded to lose it. Well! Here goes another try.
I just ordered this blade online. This post came at a great time.I bought yards of fleece when it was on sale before Christmas. I intended to crochet aroung them but it is next to impossible without holes, even tried an ice pick! Now, just have to wait for this to get here! Question... Do you make your blankets with one layer or two? Thanks, Phyllis |

thank you so much for letting us know about that blade. I have never heard of it. :D
I made one with bright yellow background and brightly colored hot air balloons on it. Then I crocheted around it with red. It is very pretty.
I used just one layer of fleece, although I'll bet you could use more if you wanted. I used a decorative yarn, not a worsted variety, but that was because I wanted a certain look.
Have you seen the two layer fleece blankets that they cut into the blanket from the edge a few inches, they tie the two layers together like a fringe. It's cute too. |
