I haven't fused or appliqued them yet, but I think I'm going to use these on the yellow background for the pillow.
I have a little more than 20 more sets for the quilt, so when I decide how I'm going to put them together, will post a pic of them.

Izy 05-09-2008 12:57 PM

Oh Mary - that is so much fun to look at....are you doing different coloured flip flops in each block???? :D :D

Thanks for giving me a preview.....can I have a regular progress report??????lol

mary705 05-09-2008 01:10 PM

Yes I am. The pillow is for a friends little girl, she just turned two last month, so it will be the June pillow case for her pillow. Already made her 3 others, and will do one for each month.

The actual quilt is 20 blocks (allthe same) but the flip flops will be different. Then will make a square pillow to match. That set will be for my niece that will be continueing her college education in Ft. Lauderdale, so I thought Flip Flops would fit the city.

Izy 05-09-2008 01:15 PM

It will be just great Mary :D

I have been to Fort Lauderdale!!, we did a trip about 3 years ago, did the usual at Orlando, then down to F.L., Clearwater then over to Miami, then down to Key West.

We hired a small plane at the keys, and the pilot allowed my son Ryan to take the controls....his face was a picture!! He was sixteen at the time, what an experience....The keys look amazing from the sky, we could see all the turtles and dolphins....one very special place Florida...BUT I don't like your thunerstorms....

mary705 05-09-2008 01:25 PM

neither do I

Izy 05-09-2008 01:35 PM

Actually thunderstorms are seriously scary here in Spain, November and april seem to be the time for them. We get torrential rain too. We are situation about 750 metres above sea level, so when the storms come in we are literally in the clouds and the thunder is all around you, thankfully it only happens a couple of times a year....when we visited Floriday in April it was every day...lol!

mary705 05-09-2008 01:42 PM

a pretty calm year so far, so I'm not complaining.

Izy 05-09-2008 01:52 PM

I am glad for you, where abouts in Florida are you??

mary705 05-09-2008 01:53 PM

Just outside St. Petersburg, in Pinellas Park

Izy 05-09-2008 01:56 PM

That is on the west coast, near Clearwater isn't it, I think we stayed down there for one of the weeks....but its a while ago, and geography isnt one of my best subjects....

Celeste 05-09-2008 02:08 PM

mary705 That looks adorable! It reminds me of time I was in school on Oahu and spent a long weekend with a friend on Kauai. I forgot church shoes and she insisted "slippa's" as they are called there were perfectly acceptable. I kept my feet hidden as well as I could because the only other people I saw wearing them were the teenaged boys!

Yep, we are in between Clearwater and St Petersburg.

Izy 05-09-2008 02:18 PM

We stayed in a lovely 1950's style holiday chalets...right on the beach, close to the hotel that has a rotating restaurant on the top....I can't remember the name of the place, but it holds fond memories...got great pictures of my son being overwhelmed with gulls....great beach!!

tlrnhi 05-09-2008 03:05 PM

Izy...you can come and enjoy the rocking/rolling earthquakes with me. We just had an aftershock a couple minutes ago! :)

Elizabeth A. 05-09-2008 03:07 PM

I love those, they're great! The perfect college gift! I'm too am in Florida, I'm oh 30 to north of Clearwater. That sounds like a great vacation Izy, I didn't know you could fly over the keys like that.

Barb M 05-09-2008 03:07 PM

Really Terri? Was it a very strong one? Do you have to worry about a sunami? We had one a couple weeks ago, but it was only 4.5, couldnt even feel it, it was out in the ocean :)

I dunno how big it was, but let me tell you...it rocked me in the bed and I DID NOT like it. Normally it doesn't bother me, but this one did. Bill said the van rocked back and forth, so it was a good sized one.
tsunamis? I'm watching!!! ;)

Barb M 05-09-2008 03:10 PM

oh gosh, hope everything will be ok, please let us know!

Barb M 05-09-2008 03:11 PM

i dont think you're sposed to watch Terri! lol think you're sposed to run for cover!!! lol lol

Barb M 05-09-2008 03:13 PM

The highest we've had is about 7.5, but never any damage where we are from them, we get them occasionally, most of them i dont feel, but a couple have made the couch or bed shake, that's creepy when that happens

Elizabeth it was just one of those little 4 seater cessna type pleasure planes hire for an hour or something...that was some experience, he let Ryan have the controls right up to the point of touch down - boy was my heart in my mouth, I didn't mind Ryan zooming us up and down to look at the turtles but I sure didn't fancy him landing the blinking thing...lol

Elizabeth A. 05-09-2008 03:24 PM

 Seeing that my daughter is nearly 3 I don't think I need to worry to soon about her flying us around. My dh on the other hand, is so aware of my comfort levels that he made me love jet ski-ing!

sandpat 05-09-2008 04:18 PM

The flip flops are too cute! That pillow idea will be great too. Love it!

mary705 05-09-2008 05:00 PM

I'm getting to use a lot of my funky FQ for this one. I'm also doing a Cat quilt for my cousin, and instead of sewing buttons on for the eyes, will use some of the fusable scraps from the flip flops.

amma 05-09-2008 05:59 PM

I love the flip flops! I can't wait to see the whole quilt/pillow ensemble :D :D :D

OK, which Flip Flop should I use for the single pillow for the two year old and should I have them going up and down as in the pic, or going the long way?

The one on the right is the original pair I was going to use. Still going to use the yellow as the pillow front.

sandpat 05-10-2008 04:18 AM

Ok, my vote for the 2 yr. old is the pair with the big cirles and they should go up & down. These are darling and your project is getting to be more fun every time I see it!

mary705 05-10-2008 04:22 AM

Thanks sandpat, I was kind of thinking that too.

Janeen 05-10-2008 07:21 AM

I don't know what pattern you are using for this (I love it, by the way) but a flip-flop quilt is PERFECT for my oldest grand-daughter who only wears something else besides flip flops when she's barrel racing! 8) She even wears them for 'regular' riding!

anyway, I found a pattern last night online:
http://quickquilts.com/curiss/705_wbff_pattern/[url]

that can be used to make the squares.... (even a bikini pattern  )

and you can make the squares any size you want (as long as it's big enough for a 'pair' of flip-flops) :D

mary705 05-10-2008 07:42 AM

I like this one too, thanks for the link.

The one I'm using is from Fons & Porter's May/June issue.

I vote the same as sandpat Mary :D

mary705 05-10-2008 08:15 AM

Yeah, I really do like that one too for a 2 year old. Already have it fused to the pillow cover, just need to stitch around it now and sew the pieces together.

And thanks for your help Sandpat and Izy. :D

Chele 05-10-2008 08:23 AM

Mary, your flip flops are so clever. I LOVE the fabrics you used! Today my first issue of Fons & Porter came. And it's the issue with the flip flop pattern! Woo hoo! I hope I can make mine look half as nice as yours!

sandpat 05-10-2008 01:38 PM

I knew I had seen it in Fons & Porter, but I like yours better

mary705 05-10-2008 01:42 PM

Why thank you sandpat. I think for the background squares I may use an ecru with shiny gold specs in it, will cut one and see how I like it, if not, then off to JoAnns it will be.

I will. When I take these over I will TRY to remember to take my camera so I can take a picture of the other three I have already made.

I'm thinking about using a light blue with alphabet blocks on it for August since that is when school starts back up (at least I think it does). I know she is only two, but some of the blocks you can connect to make words, I already checked, so I figure it could be a learning pillow case.

possible August pillow case
