Flower Baskets

This quilt is made for my cousin using handkerchiefs which belonged to her mother (my aunt). My aunt has been clearing out her house and gave me the handkerchiefs. It is too long a story for here but I think my cousin will be both pleased and surprised to receive it. I have already made 2 butterfly quilts using handkerchiefs so wanted something different for this one. I didn't follow a pattern but I think it turned out ok.

Great use of old hankies. So different from the usual butterflies that are lovely also but I do like your baskets.

Great idea for a block! And so pretty...

lots2do 08-24-2016 05:17 AM

Isn't that lovely! Did you cut them in half or just fold them?

daisydebby 08-24-2016 05:22 AM

I think your hankie baskets are awesome:) I have 20 blocks done for the butterfly hankies...have never set them together. Should find it....finish it....and try your method....I personally think this is more attractive:)

I also wonder if these are half of the Handkerchiefs or the whole folded over???? Very Clever pattern.

JoyjoyMarie 08-24-2016 09:48 AM

That is just terrific!! So cute. My Mom had quite a collection of hankies and I gave them to my daughter about a year ago. Hope she does something as wonderful with hers.

Polly C 08-24-2016 10:21 AM

For those of you who wondered - I did cut them in half (except for the one I used the center of) because they were so thin it would have shown through & I can now use the other half for something else!

this is so pretty..great job!

Geri B 08-25-2016 07:37 AM

Being that the hankies are a thinner fabric did you use a fusible interfacing to give more body to them? Great idea for hankies!

now looking at the pic again..seems like you did a four patch, one of which had the colored fabric bottom of the basket, then appliquéd the half hankie and handle. (Hand or machine appliqué)?

red-warrior 08-25-2016 06:13 PM
