FMQ for Christmas

3 Attachment(s)
Good morning all! I've been working on a series of 5 "O'Tannenbaum" wall hangings for Christmas, and have the first one ready to share with you.

This is my own original pattern, paper pieced, and FMQ'd on my DSM (Juki TL98Q), using all metallic threads from Superior Threads. The wall hanging measures 16" x 25". I still need to put a silver finish on a dowel and prepare a cord for hanging and then this one will be done!

Enjoy!

The pictures don't show the metallic thread very well and the colors seem to be just a bit off, but you get the idea...

Wow... that is absolutely amazing! One question...for a quilt...how do you do that much close FMQ and still keep the quilt soft and cuddly? I have done meandering and the quilt was so stiff...you couldn't even wrap up in it nicely. I have tried a thicker but softer batting but still..the FMQ makes the quilt so stiff.not quite a bad but still, not soft and cuddly. Any suggestions?\ on how to make that happen or what to do/not to do to achieve it? Appreciate any tips!

cleodaisy 10-13-2012 09:18 AM

How absolutely Gorgeous!!! In a hundred years I couldn't FMQ like you do. I shall hold my breath until you post more.

Very nice. I'm curious - if you're making 5 of these, do you intend to display all 5 together, or will they be going off to different homes? Either way, your little quilts are beautiful.

dunster~I'm planning to hang 3 of them together on my office wall for the holidays, and the other 2 will go to a local gallery where I sell some of my work. I had originally planned to keep/display all 5, but the gallery owner pretty much begged me to bring a couple of them in when she saw me making them...
