Beautiful quilt, lovely idea.

Biffy,

There is no actual pattern for the "sew and flip" technique. You start with an irregularly shaped focus fabric (usually 5 sides) and lay it in the center of a square of foundation fabric a little larger than the block size you want. Then scrap fabrics (frequently first cut into manageable strips) are sewn on one by one. After each seam, the fabric is “flipped” and pressed into place. The excess is trimmed as you go, in order to reduce bulk. It is very similar to a "crazy quilt." I love this technique, because no templates are required, and you use scraps and just see what happens!

Because I have trouble machine quilting large things, I use the "quilt as you go" method after all of the blocks are constructed. First each block is quilted (I use stitch in the ditch) to a backing fabric with batting between, of course. After they are trimmed to size, they are connected with a narrow sashing in the QAYG method. You could choose any method of setting the blocks and quilting.

My avatar is "sew and flip" set on point and finished with QAYG.

Oh, that's sew cute! Snoopy was my favorite when I was in college and it's good to see he's still with us! That checked border sets it off beautifully! It must have been fun to plan and stitch!

Coopah,

I chose the checked border because it reminded me of a bistro. Do you remember that Snoopy had an imaginary French girlfriend that he visited in Europe during his flying ace days?

Love it and the way you used the fabrics. The binding is great.

marcycn 09-27-2012 08:35 AM

I would send it to your brother anyway and tell him to keep it for a future baby in his family. I would never give something this nice away to a stranger. :-)

Bluelady 09-27-2012 08:37 AM

What a cute quilt! Love the scrub idea. And as long as the other fabrics are also washed, you can mix fabrics in a quilt.. How else do you think those T-shirt quilts are made?? Or jeans? Or silk? or Crown Royal bag quilts? Don't let the quilt police stop you!

That is an awesome quilt. I used to draw charlie brown and the gang along with mickey mouse as a child. I tried a couple of months ago to draw them and can't. Mother tells me to keep practicing. Believe it or not, I use to draw murals on the walls also.

blueangel 01-25-2013 09:51 PM

That is really cute..

quilter2theend 01-26-2013 06:37 AM

If you don't pass it on as a baby quilt, it would make a great wall hanging!

BizzieLizzie 02-06-2013 01:57 PM

That is absolutely gorgeous! I love Snoopy and grew up with the gang. I love the binding fabric it makes the quilt look so special. Thank you for sharing! :)
