Focus Fabric from a Scrub

1 Attachment(s)
This is a "sew and flip" quilt made with a "quilt as you go" method.

I found the Snoopy focus fabric as a scrub at a garage sale. I had not seen that print anywhere else. My brother used to draw Snoopy as the Red Baron cartoons so many years ago when we were growing up on the farm. I am hoping that one of his 3 married kids (all over 30 years old) will announce a pregnancy this year, so it can go to the new baby. If that doesn't happen (I am not holding my breath), it will go to the annual Bible Camp charity quilt auction next summer.

What a great idea for that type of fabric! New idea for another quilt I want to make. Thank you for sharing.

That is very cute...that reminds me, i must finish the quilt I started with used scrubs.....

sew_Tracy 09-25-2012 09:21 AM

This is super cute and hooray for you and your eye finding that scrub!

Pennyquilter88 09-25-2012 09:29 AM

My! Too cute - how clever to use scrubs for the fabric you wanted.

Dolphyngyrl 09-25-2012 09:53 AM

I love it. I was a big snoopy fan.

JJean 09-25-2012 09:56 AM

Wow! You made a super quilt! I hope it stays in the family!

Ms Grace 09-25-2012 10:20 AM

very cute!
Were the scrubs 100% cotton?
I've thought of using scrubs before, but they weren't all cotton. So, I wasn't sure if it would work in a quilt or not

Daylesewblessed 09-25-2012 11:05 AM

Yes, this scrub had a tag, and it was 100% cotton. For something like sew and flip that uses a stabilizer, I think a blend if it was predominately cotton would probably work ok.

Can someone please tell me what "a scrub" is.

Cute quilt. Love the way Snoopy looks like he is in a kennel in some of the blocks.

tutt 09-25-2012 01:04 PM

This is so stinking cute! My oldest loves Snoopy and would really love it.

Daylesewblessed 09-25-2012 01:10 PM

Busy Fingers,

A scrub is what nurses and doctors wear, I think originally for surgery (as in "scrub up"). A person thinks of them as green in color, but a lot of the medical people who work with children wear scrubs (uniforms) that are made of prints that would appeal to children. Dental workers even have cute tops with toothbrushes and teeth or toothy smiles.

It is so cute! Wonderful idea for using scrub fabric. I have bought scrubs at a thrift store and got some nice fabric from them.

PenniF 09-25-2012 01:13 PM

That is such a happy quilt....someone - grandbaby or auction winner - is going to be lucky to have it.

QuiltingJaguar 09-25-2012 01:19 PM

Beautiful I just love it and the colors wonderful I have used a scrub also, they have a lot to offer at a thrift shop.

JabezRose 09-25-2012 01:23 PM

Use a lot of used scrubs here, we sell them and when they have hung on the rack for awhile, it becomes quilting fodder. Lot of real neat prints you won't find at the fabric stores. Lot of our charity kids quilts are made with scrubs, they are made to match tops and bottoms so you automaticlly have different material for the quilts. And pretty sturdy material too.

This is so very cute. Any kid would love it.

Hi Dayle. You really are blessed with your sew. The quilt really is looking great as well as beautiful. Well, the things look more attractive when they are being made or designed for any noble cause. Wherever it may go, either to the baby or to the charity the people will like it really too much. I would also like to say that the prints used in this quilt are really too good to look at.

Babs194068 09-26-2012 02:47 AM

That is a really cute quilt!

Biffy 09-26-2012 02:48 AM
