Has anyone ever made these? So far I've finished these two and have about 8 more to go! There's a lot of pins in each one, it's hard on the fingers after a while!

I have two or three on my tree this year - have the same ones for about 18 years now - I love them - wish I had the pattern still - I would make more!!

I've done several over the years. I use liquid bandaid on my finger tips. Or do you have any of the sticky type "thimble pads"? I have 35 nieces and nephews and one year my sis and I made each one their own!!!

Here's a link to the basic instructions. http://www.make-stuff.com/projects/quiltball.html

I used a strip of fabric to cover the edges instead of ribbon. I added the ribbons on top (those came from the dollar store) and I used a large pearl head pin (like a corsage pin) pushed into the center of the ribbons to hold the hanger. It gives it a nice finish at the top.

Yep, after my fingers were full of holes I got smart and used those sticky thimble pads, they really made a difference.

Mousie 12-06-2009 07:41 PM

I love them both, but the silver and white one...ooh, la la! :-D

littlehud 12-06-2009 07:41 PM

I made a couple of them last year. Yours are so beautiful and elegant.

paintedquilt 12-07-2009 09:40 AM

Wow :!:

RedGarnet222 12-07-2009 09:46 AM

I just love love love the silver one! I am going to have to remember this one for our annual ornament exchange party. Ours was supposed to be this wednsday, but it is snowing to beat the band since yesterday and we just cancelled it until the storm passes and the roads clear.

I found some silly reindeers to make this year. It was so cute that my brothers girlfriend commissioned me to make six more and gave me thirty bucks for them. She was being nice, they weren't worth five bucks each.

I printed the instructions out for this one ... Thanks so much for sharing.

Sugarpumpkin 12-07-2009 09:57 AM

I really want to make these!

Your's are gorgeous!

Debra Mc 12-07-2009 10:27 AM

THismomquilts, I got this pattern the other day from Janet Wickell at About Quilts.com. Had never seen them made in balls. Have a book I got some years ago but I made pillows out of them. I'll try & find it & let you know the name. I think they are so pretty. Be something neat for next year.

twistedstitcher 12-07-2009 11:10 AM

Thanks for all the compliments everyone!

nativetexan 12-07-2009 12:21 PM

i started one of those as a pin cushion and still haven't finished it. great going!

wvdek 12-07-2009 03:20 PM

I downloaded the pattern. I do better with tutorials though, so will see if You Tube has one on there.
Thanks again.

Boston1954 12-07-2009 03:45 PM

They are gorgeous!! Maybe the fingers do hurt, but my gosh it looks like it's worth it. If I saw one in a store, I would want it.

redquilter 12-07-2009 04:56 PM

I've never made them, but I did see them somewhere. But I must say, yours are beautiful and the addition of the ribbon just makes them even more spectacular.

n2scraplvr 12-07-2009 08:46 PM

Yours are very pretty! Thought about making them this summer but never got around to it. One girl I know sells them for $35 each and she has so many orders that you have to go on a waiting list of 5 mos.!!! But then you can get them for $8 on ebay. They sell better with dramatic bows on top like you did. :D

SulaBug 12-08-2009 12:15 AM

I haven't tried them yet, but they look wonderful!! What a nice job you have both done making these ornaments!!
:D :D :D :D

Sew and Sew 12-08-2009 03:46 AM

I have made lots of these, even this year about 18.......takes a lot of time and it is hard on the fingers...yours are exceptionally beautiful.........love the way you did the ribbon......

BellaBoo 12-08-2009 05:16 AM

I made a lot of these last year for a fundraiser and discovered a lot of handy tips. I found that the inexpensive straight pins are hard to push in, I bought a tin of Iris Superfine pins and they pushed in like butter. If you have a hard time pushing the pins in, use the eraser end of a pencil, that helps save the fingers. I pressed the folds in the fabric first. That took a little time but the end results were worth it. These folded fabric ornaments sold for $35 each and we sold everyone. Many small gift shops will sell these on consignment during the holidays. Go in and ask!

reneebobby 12-08-2009 05:48 AM

You have done a very nice job on them.
