Forest Hollow
1 Attachment(s)
I bought the Forest Hollow patterns by McKenna Ryan prior to 2009 (for $166 Cdn... good grief!) ... and thought I would make and gift it to my Sis who would turn 65 in 2009.... nope...didn't happen..(and in the meantime she downsized into a teensy place) ... SO.... April 18, 2016 I finally got the top finished.... I really did NOT like the pattern... the instructions had you make this little portion and set it aside...and then that little portion and set it aside.... anyway.... I decided this was the year that little sucker would get finished! I have machine quilted it and now.... the dilemma .... what to do with a 57" square quilt/wallhanging ? I have walked around our home with the measuring tape.... well... maybe it could go there...or here.... oh well... maybe it will live in the closet for awhile! :-) Also.... I did not cut away the fusible in the larger shapes, so it is not a cuddly quilt.

Lovely quilt!

Is is a beautiful piece. Can you use it for a bed topper just for decoration? At least you learned what you don't like about these projects. I hope you find a special place to display it.
I have the perfect wall... ;)
Very sweet!
Please enjoy it. It is beautiful. You did a great job.
Your dog blended right in with the quilt! The quilt is beautiful. So is the dog.
Is there a reason you can't give it to your sister as a lap quilt? |
When I have a beauty, with no home, I give it to a charity that has a silent auction so it goes to someone who really wants it and the money goes to a charity I care about. (as opposed to the local shelters who hands it to the next person arriving.) Just a thought. But it is truly a beauty!

Wonderful. BrendaK

It is gorgeous! I have the perfect wall space for it haha

It’s a masterpiece - I love the colours!
If you decide you don’t want to keep it you could donate it to a local hospice. It would be perfect for a child or adult’s bed. |
I think it's lovely - and congratulations for finishing it. I can see that a lot of hard work went into it. Since you have a dog (a real cutie!) how about donating it to your local Humane Society's annual fundraiser? I do that with mine, because the amount of money they get in a raffle or silent auction is far more than I could donate in cash.
I have a temporary solution - enter it in a quilt show - you surely would win a ribbon on this one!!! Then send it to me LOL It is a beautiful quilt!!!!
Did you notice that the dog's expression matches the owl in the lower right corner?
I'm glad that you finished it. |
Really cute quilt and I hope you find a way to display it in your home or in your sister's because it is too sweet and lovely to hide in a closet. It deserves a special place to be seen.
It is beautiful, congratulations on its finish. I would never attempt these patterns even though they are so beautiful I don't have the patience.I think all the suggestions so far sound great
I love this & sincerely hope you find a place to display it! It’s too wonderful to hide in a closet.
It may not be cuddly but it is stunning. I would hang it in the first 57 x 57 wall space you find. It needs to be displayed. It's beautiful.
Beautiful quilt that deserves a nice wall space! Well done!
It's beautiful... how about hanging it in your sewing room? Or if you have a guest bedroom, lay it on the bed.
Let me send you my address. I will hang it in the middle of the room if I have to. I just love it!! You did a great job. I have the "This Otter Be Fun" block from another design. One day I will get that done.
Oh dear! I hate it when something like that happens. The hanging is beautiful and I hope it finds a place of honor in your home.
It is a beautiful quilt and I think it should hang someplace in your home. After all, you have spent so much time on it and it is too pretty to hide in a closet. What about an entry way from your front door. Good luck on where to hang this master piece.
Like it very much, great quilt
quilt show sounds good but also you might think of donating it to your local library or city offices, etc. sometimes they really need a wonderful thing to brighten up their spaces.
You used such pretty fabrics! It's nice!
Being an owl lover, I find that to be a totally awesome quilt. We've had owls (Eastern Screech Owls) come to our owl box for the past 8/9 years (raising on the average 2 babies each year). If you can't find a place for it in your home I can send you my address...:) I would love that on the wall in my sewing room.
That is a beautiful quilt. I hope you find a place to hang or display so others can enjoy the uniqueness of it.
It is so sweet with the owls. I hope you find a place that you like for it.
I see an admirer of your lovely quilt...your sweet faced dog. The quilt is stunning with all your attention to detail in your applique.
One idea for your quilt if you can't find a place to hang it or gift to a friend or family member is to loan it to be hung at your local library in the children's book area. (my friend did this). She was told it will be hung during the spring and summer months and then she can pick it up. She went often to watch peoples reactions to her quilt and gained so much joy from the admirers. |
It is just darling...love the colors....
Oh this quilt brings back such memories for me! It was the first quilt I ever made! My Aunt in Australia loves owls and I gifted it to her. The fabrics were so beautiful-fussy cutting the feathers and adding 3D butterflies! It really is a beautiful quilt that you must find a great home for after so much work! I'm glad you finished it!!
I love your quilt. Surely you will find some place to put it - it needs to be looked at.
I love it, but then I love most of McKenna Ryan's stuff. I did a small wall hanging for my college roommate that she had framed and hung on the cornice of her kitchen facing the living area. I have two more kits for myself but have yet gotten the nerve to start them. One will hang in the guest room and the other in our office above the door frame, as we have cathedral ceilings in there. Please don't shove yours in the closet. It deserves a place of honor, if not in your house, in someone else's house who loves it. You did a fabulous job!
Thank you everyone for your kind words. I will make a hanging sleeve and label this week just in case. I do have one space behind my computer screen that I could "squish" it into, but need to wait until someone can hold it up there for me. I don't want to have to paint my walls to hang it :D
My little grand puggy thinks that every quilt is hers...but not this one! |
I think it is beautiful and would make a great addition to any room, whether it is on a bed, hanging on a wall or as a sofa throw blanket. The colors are so pretty and there are so many things to look at. If you really don't want it, I think it would be an outstanding item to auction/raffle at an event.
I love it
It's beautiful |
It must be showcased...I gave up on sleeves and hang all my quilts no matter the size w/command strips...easy peasy and no holes in the wall...Then I just leave the strips on wall and match up new strips onto the back of another quilt to line up with those wall strips and switch out every mth...This way I get to enjoy all my works...

very nice , quilt I see someone else like it also ..
