I forgot to quilt around the white border around the pictures and put on the binding already. should i try to go around and stitch in the ditch? it's gonna be a wall hanging so i don't want it to sag....

I don't think it would hurt to do that. It's a small quilt, so that should work.... What do the rest of you think, am curious???...

Beautiful

I do that quite often and it works great.

dcquilter 10-31-2011 07:34 AM

It's darling! You'll probably be happier if you go back and stitch in the ditch. I have one that I forgot to quilt in the borders and it bothers me everytime I look at it. So now it's in the closet.

orangeroom 10-31-2011 07:36 AM

Have you quilted it at all? If not, I'd definitely go back and quilt something on it.

yes i quilted in the blocks but not on the borders...

bj 10-31-2011 07:37 AM

I don't think it would hurt anything. I went back and quilted borders after I'd bound and it went ok. I agree with dcquilter, I think you'll be happier with it if you do. Just be easy with it.

I've tried to do this in the past and end up with a bunch somewhere. Maybe try a loose curl as that can be more forgiving than the sitd. Let us know what works.

whats a loose curl

Lacelady 10-31-2011 07:49 AM

I think it would give it extra stability, and it wouldn't hurt that you have already bound it.

QuiltnLady1 10-31-2011 07:55 AM

I have done that before -- your quilt is stabilized so it should be OK.

QuiltnNan 10-31-2011 07:58 AM

i think it is fine to do it now

lovingmama 10-31-2011 08:04 AM

It's beautiful! Would you mind sharing the pattern?

ok i stitched in the ditch and it looks good thanks ladies! Now is it ok to wash this or should i not because of the applique? my quilt teacher said not to but then it won't be fluffy right?

nativetexan 10-31-2011 10:38 AM

should be fine. if you don't want to do Stitch in the ditch, just do curves in the white. just use your walking foot and move the quilt to the left and then the right as you go along. I do that a lot.

Sewfine 10-31-2011 06:34 PM

Yes, I would go back and do a SID.

hannajo 10-31-2011 08:25 PM

Very pretty  I'm glad your quilting worked out.

TacoMama 10-31-2011 08:28 PM

It's very pretty!

Vat 11-02-2011 01:24 PM

You can add quilting after your quilt is finished. I have done it in the past.

kiffie2413 11-02-2011 01:42 PM

What a lovely quilt! I am fixing to start on a Nativity quilt, too, will have to look at the pattern I got a while back and see if I like it as much as yours...lol. As far as adding quilting, I have gone back and quilted in areas, and it has been fine.

I would follow the teachers instructions. Just sayin'

nanawen 11-02-2011 01:53 PM

i think it would work.

dunster 11-02-2011 02:13 PM

I think it will be fine to add the quilting if you think it's necessary. I've put quilts back on the longarm before to add quilting to an area that got short changed with the quilting first time around.
