Good find! Very pretty ~
It looks French-Provencal fabrics. Pity there is no label on it.
That is so nice. The fabrics look familiar also. If I had seen it, I would have purchased it also.
sew bright and cheery, glad you found it. Too bad there wasn't a label or any info on it??? at least a date and maker? It has a wonderful new home now and you know from "whence it came"

Have you ever thought of donating your quilts to a Children's Hospital? My quilt guild makes and donates to the Children's Hospital in Atlanta. Along with other guild's, our goal is to see that each child goes home with their very own quilt. They use them while in the hospital.

Love it! To me it is scrappy and I adore scrappy. Years ago, while living in California, and touring the square in Sonoma, I went into the St. Vincent dePaul Thrift Shop and saw an old yo yo quilt of scrappy fabrics from the 1930's and 1940's. Took it home, washed it gently, repaired several of the yo yo's. Paid $12.00 for it. Best buy I ever made. I too have always wondered, who took the time to make all these yo yo's and who was it for. So glad I rescued it from being destroyed. You did good. Have a Happy Holiday.

I don't think people appreciate something "home made" any more. Some people would rather spend their money on something that looks "professional" rather than something that looks like a regular person made it.
It is very pretty. I wouldn't have passed it by, either.
I've found some very lovely quilts in Good Will. It seems that when a "sewist" passes on or becomes unable to care for her/his self, the family disposes of treasures like this. Perhaps they have taken their pick of the treasures before donating the rest of the fabric/project collection; perhaps not. Moral of the story is to designate who gets what out of your fabric, projects, machines, equipment collections and then ask that the 'unclaimed' items be donated to a local guild or charity that can make excellent use of them. |
Dottymo, make a will and leave it to those who will love it, designating that 'leftovers' go to a local quilt guild that engages in charity work. Don't make it your brothers responsibility to dispose of your treasures!
Rodney, it's not always that the recipient didn't appreciate it. Sometimes the owner passes to the next life and their family has no connection to the quilt, thus, it gets donated. But donated is much better than trashed!
Wow again, I always wonder where it came from and why they gave it up?
what a great deal
It is a bright, happy quilt indeed, especially after being rescued from the thrift store. Unfortunately, some people do not realize the value of a quilt and the labor and love that goes into making one.
Very pretty, glad you saved it.
I would rather my quilts end up for sale, anywhere as someone who wants them will buy them. I hope mine do not end up in the trash. |
What a rescue! It always breaks DH and my hearts when we see quilts at thrift stores, estate auctions and such. We find it so sad that no one on the family wanted these wonderful treasures.
Such rich colors - so glad it has found a loving home!
A good rescue!!
It really tugs at my heart when I see a handmade quilt at a thrift store. I found a hand pieced/hand quilted one at a thrift store and had to buy it. I am sure we felt the same way about them. I think the person who made them would be so happy to know they found good homes.
I would have grabbed it too!. Very pretty with strong vibrant colors!
What a lovely find. My sister and I went to some thrift stores this past summer, she kept finding crochet blankets, and decided she didn't want to make any more. Wouldn't like to see them there, she also wanted to buy them all! She did get some!
Who knows.....maybe someone on this board will recognize it.
Absolutely true - I recently won 4 sort of stack & whack blocks at a guild meeting and the fabrics are so similar it's like the same person made both to coordinate with each other. I love it, you were so lucky, I agree it's very happy and should make you smile every time you see it. You have to wonder about the kind of person who would just dump this at a thrift shop.
I love it.
All the thrft storesn our area have gone crazy on their pricing. Nothing is cheap. Some pirces are almost retail. Theywould have charges $30. or more here for it. |
great find very bright! love the thrift stores!
Great find.....
I always worry when I see a post like this that it will be a quilt I gifted. If it ever is I hope someone like you ends up with it!
Adorable...so happy you found it!
What a great find. I would have bought it too.
THat's a beautiful, bright, cheery quilt! I, too, have rescued quilts from thrift stores...4 so far. Sad to see all that handiwork turn up in a thrift store! :( But they are home safe with me, now and will be loved and taken care of! :)
What a great buy!!
It is happy, I would have bought it also.
lucky lady. It will make someone very happy.
It is good that quilt is now appreciated.
That is so pretty, maybe now it will get the appreciation it deserves, how sad something that someone put so much time and love into ends up in a thrift store.
