I reallly enjoyed making these. Very quick and easy. With the scraps I made napkins to match.

Baysidegal 08-13-2010 02:40 PM

How pretty....makes me hungry LOL. Did you use any particular pattern??

cjomomma 08-13-2010 02:40 PM

Those are real cut!

Grammy o'5 08-13-2010 02:43 PM

Those are very pretty! But I don't understand the "four-sided" part - what does that mean?

Ditter43 08-13-2010 03:05 PM

Very neat! I love the fabrics!! :D

rootyr 08-13-2010 03:24 PM

Lovely! Each of those designs is in one placemat.

craftybear 08-13-2010 05:03 PM

very cute, what do you mean by 4 sided???

Up North 08-13-2010 05:21 PM

I think they are adorable but when I read the title I had to laugh and again they are not 6 sided!! My first thought was -so what's new most placemats have 4 sides!!-

Friendly Quilter 08-13-2010 05:32 PM

Very Nice!

CarrieAnne 08-13-2010 05:34 PM

Very cute!

ncsewer 08-13-2010 05:39 PM

Do these open like a book so you have 4 different looks on each one?

That's pretty much it. You just open to whichever look you want for the day. I made some for my DGS with childrens fabrics. It is a large oval template. You cut 4, then sew 2 of them right sides together, from the center around to the other side. Put another on 1 side (right sides together) and sew the remaining half of 1 and the first half of the other. Do this until you have all 4 sewn together, leaving a turning spot open. Turn right side out and press. I topstitched mine so they will lay flat easier after washing. I put interfacing behind 2 to add stability. Hope this didn't cloud the issue more.

judyrael 08-13-2010 06:29 PM

I really like this idea. Are these real thick when you get done?

stichinluvr 08-13-2010 06:38 PM

They just feel like 4 layers of stacked fabric.

skydiver70 08-13-2010 06:55 PM

I found the instructions, etc. for the four-sided placemats.

Here it is: http://dunnvillequiltguild.com/uploads/2010_January.pdf

I was thinking about this cute idea here,
and in the midst of some chore or other, Spang it dawned on me (I love it on those rare occasions that my little LED brain light comes on and I actually have an idea)
that the Four Sided-Placemat does not have to be limited to placemats.
I had this mental image of it growing.

So I dragged (we say drug for past tense of drag but it sounds kinda hickish) the BFF down to the goodie store and told her to pick out 4 fabrics that she would actually and truly like to see on her table and that she would actually use. I suggested maybe seasonal, or vintage, or whatever she loves.
She did, whining all the way What For???

So I took her choices and went home and made this.

When I brought it to her, she loves it, and it has her choices in the prints.
Two of the prints are seasonal, and the others are just her style retro.

Not sure these pictures show it best, but being quilters, you-all will see what it's meant to show.

What do you think?

.

4 pieces, 1/3 yrd x width of fabric, trimmed and stitched.

Thank you so much for explaining and getting the pattern. I had never heard of them before.

pocoellie 09-28-2010 10:15 AM

Thanks for the link, I'll have to see if I can do it. LOL

tooMuchFabric 09-28-2010 03:11 PM

Try it, and post some pictures.

This one is A little different

That original site referred to is no longer available. The directions were part of a Guild newsletter and they only go back as far as September now. The older newsletters seem to have been deleted. Darn.

Jammin' Jane 07-12-2011 11:08 AM

How fun! Thanks for the link!

Texasgirl1 01-29-2012 06:29 PM

I have been searching for the pattern myself. Could someone with the instructions (including the measurements for the oval and fabric requirements) please post. As mentioned above, the guild newletter no longer posts that pattern. Thanks.............

Blinkokr 01-29-2012 06:33 PM

Turned out beautiful, love the bright colors, thanks for sharing
Have a Blessed day

Ok if I understand this right..

You get an oval, of some unmentioned size... of 4 fabrics.. you lay one down, right side up.. you lay another right side down on top of the first. You sew around one half of that oval. Then you take the unsewn half and fold it back over the sewn half. Then you take another oval fabric and put it on top with right side down, and sew around the OTHER side that you didn't sew previously. Then fold the unsewn side back, then you take the 4th final fabric and lay that right side down, and go all the way around the edge but leaving a gap to turn inside out. Sound about right?

Jingle 01-10-2020 04:55 PM

Very good idea. Someone put a link to written instructions.
