I reallly enjoyed making these. Very quick and easy. With the scraps I made napkins to match.
How pretty....makes me hungry LOL. Did you use any particular pattern??
Those are real cut!
Those are very pretty! But I don't understand the "four-sided" part - what does that mean?
Very neat! I love the fabrics!! :D
Lovely! Each of those designs is in one placemat.
very cute, what do you mean by 4 sided???
I think they are adorable but when I read the title I had to laugh and again they are not 6 sided!! My first thought was -so what's new most placemats have 4 sides!!-
Very Nice!
Very cute!
Do these open like a book so you have 4 different looks on each one?

I really like this idea. Are these real thick when you get done?
They just feel like 4 layers of stacked fabric.
I found the instructions, etc. for the four-sided placemats.
Here it is: http://dunnvillequiltguild.com/uploads/2010_January.pdf |
Those are really neat, and thanks skydiver for finding the written instructions.

I was thinking about this cute idea here,
and in the midst of some chore or other, Spang it dawned on me (I love it on those rare occasions that my little LED brain light comes on and I actually have an idea) that the Four Sided-Placemat does not have to be limited to placemats. I had this mental image of it growing. So I dragged (we say drug for past tense of drag but it sounds kinda hickish) the BFF down to the goodie store and told her to pick out 4 fabrics that she would actually and truly like to see on her table and that she would actually use. I suggested maybe seasonal, or vintage, or whatever she loves. She did, whining all the way What For??? So I took her choices and went home and made this. When I brought it to her, she loves it, and it has her choices in the prints. Two of the prints are seasonal, and the others are just her style retro. Not sure these pictures show it best, but being quilters, you-all will see what it's meant to show. What do you think? . 4 pieces, 1/3 yrd x width of fabric, trimmed and stitched. Thank you so much for explaining and getting the pattern. I had never heard of them before.
Thanks for the link, I'll have to see if I can do it. LOL
This pattern makes up amazingly quickly!
Try it, and post some pictures. |

I had the same problem of not being able to open the pattern. Could someone post the original instructions?

I can't open the site either. Help! Please!
These are so fun and cute!
That original site referred to is no longer available. The directions were part of a Guild newsletter and they only go back as far as September now. The older newsletters seem to have been deleted. Darn.
How fun! Thanks for the link!
I have been searching for the pattern myself. Could someone with the instructions (including the measurements for the oval and fabric requirements) please post. As mentioned above, the guild newletter no longer posts that pattern. Thanks.............
Turned out beautiful, love the bright colors, thanks for sharing
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
Ok if I understand this right..
You get an oval, of some unmentioned size... of 4 fabrics.. you lay one down, right side up.. you lay another right side down on top of the first. You sew around one half of that oval. Then you take the unsewn half and fold it back over the sewn half. Then you take another oval fabric and put it on top with right side down, and sew around the OTHER side that you didn't sew previously. Then fold the unsewn side back, then you take the 4th final fabric and lay that right side down, and go all the way around the edge but leaving a gap to turn inside out. Sound about right? |
Very good idea. Someone put a link to written instructions.
