Frank Lloyd Wright Tree of Life Top

1 Attachment(s)
i posted about my frustration with jackie robinson's patterns a few months ago.

i opened the box and finally finished it, with some modifications.

i'm in no rush to quilt it, and never really wanted a wall hanging. it's practice for a commission, so in that way was instructive.

while it's awfully pretty, i don't particularly like wall quilts. we'll see what the future holds for i, but for now i'm calling it a success.

thanks for always being here!

nicely done

Love this. Have seen a home with this type of windows in it. Usually they were amber and browns. Love the blue version. Nicely done.

That is a cool quilt!

quiltingshe 09-20-2015 09:45 PM

I really like it. What did you do black lines with or how did you do them?

QM 09-21-2015 12:04 AM

This is a very striking quilt. If it is not what you like, I am certain many would. For example, I gave a wall hanging to our local senior housing meeting room.

odysseyquilter 09-21-2015 03:00 AM

my husband is a huge Frank Lloyd Wright fan. He would love this and the colors would look great in his man cave!

DebraK 09-21-2015 04:43 AM

Your perseverance is it's own reward. lovely piecing and colors.

WandaVA 09-21-2015 05:29 AM

I love it! I am a Frank Lloyd Wright fan, and hope to someday get the courage to try a quilt like this one. TFS

sarahelloyd 09-21-2015 08:47 AM

I just love it, couldn't resist putting it on the wall!

stillclock 09-21-2015 08:53 AM

thanks guys!

the black lines are made with 3/4" strips of kona black. not the easiest thing to work with....

I think you did a good job. At least now when you need to make another one, you will know all the ends and the outs.

LindaMRB 09-21-2015 04:03 PM

Very nice. I love Frank Lloyd Wright. I agree about wall hangings . . . because I have too many windows and lots of paintings and family photographs. Maybe you have an architect friend would appreciate it? So what DO you plan to do with it? Would it work as a throw?

Fotoula 09-21-2015 04:09 PM

Job well done!!!!!!!!!!

givio 09-21-2015 04:11 PM

If you prefer a bed quilt size and don't want a wall hanging size, then simply add a border or two until it gets to the size you like. :-)

IrishNY 09-21-2015 04:38 PM

I love it. I made a FLW quilt years ago and it hangs in my office.

leaha 09-21-2015 04:41 PM

Just lovely makes me want to do one

ragamuffin 09-21-2015 05:23 PM

After touring "Falling Waters" near Confluence, Pa., I am hooked on Frank Lloyd Wright. I did not go into the other one close to this one because I got ill but my brother did and he said we should go back. I bought one of the books and want to make some wall hangings too. I would finish this right away or send it out to be finished. You could have it finished and sell it. Trust your judgment!

jmoore 09-22-2015 02:56 AM

wow... a very interesting design and looks like it was a challenging project. Great job!

Skhf 09-22-2015 02:58 AM

It looks fantastic. Would look great just thrown over the back of a chair. I hope you can enjoy making your commission piece a little more than you enjoyed this one. At least the learning curve is over. Send your quilt out for quilting and binding and be done with this one. Great job

twinkie 09-22-2015 03:34 AM

That is such an interesting design. I think this is the first time I have seen one like this. Good job.

kydeb 09-22-2015 05:08 AM

I have the book and fabric to make one of the FLW quilts for my son. Actually, I've had it for over 2 years. I haven't had the nerve to start it yet. Maybe some day!! Yours is beautiful!!

tlpa 09-22-2015 06:13 AM

Nicely done! I've seen this pattern and wondered about how they get the thin lines so perfect!

Clmay 09-22-2015 06:37 AM

I love it!

It is really elegant! I know it was a difficult and challenging project and admire your tenacity in finishing it! Great job, hope you will enjoy it in the future!

RedGarnet222 09-22-2015 07:46 AM

He was so ahead of his time. My brother would appreciate this quilt so much. His decorating is so minimalist and modern in his home. Was the "leading" done with the black bias?

I bet you are so happy to have it finished. When something gives me trouble, I often just put it aside for years before I get back to it.

I went back and saw you answered my question. Thanks for posting this great quilt/hanging. I think it is so inspiring where quilt designs come from everywhere.

madamekelly 09-22-2015 09:47 AM

That would be a beautiful center medallion for a quilt. After all that work, I would have to finish it some how. Maybe a continuation by using rectangles of the blues on a white background?

trolleystation 09-22-2015 11:54 AM

Wooonderful quilt.

QUILTNMO 09-22-2015 12:06 PM

It looks great.

ekuw 09-22-2015 02:24 PM

Every quilt is a learning experience. Your quilt is without a doubt a success. It will find a home and both you and the recipient will be happy :-) Nice job.

IBQUILTIN 09-22-2015 02:39 PM

I love it and the possibilities are endless. What a treasure. Hope you can find a place to hang it, you won't be sorry that you did.
