If any of us are looking for mistakes, we are not quilting enough! LOL Just beautiful. Aren't we (quilters) fortunate to have such a wonderful way to spend when we are snowed in?

bigbrownowl 12-10-2010 07:55 AM

Ladies - you are too kind with your praise! Although I do like the idea of looking at quilts from a galloping horse...

I think that the snow is melting a bit today, although the forecast is for more snow and temperatures down to -20 C. I am making a mad dash for the shops tomorrow to stock up on all those little essential supplies that I seem to have run out of! You know, needles, thread, wadding (batting) - oh yes and a bit of food too...

I have the instructions for this scanned into my computer. If you PM me with your email address, I will send them via attachment (I can't seem to get the files to upload onto the message board, but I think they might be a bit too big).

Beautiful!!
I don't see any mistakes, I love stars!

Spray it with Scotch Guard for Fabric, the dropsy's and spills will wash right out, I use it all the time.

IBQUILTIN 12-10-2010 06:39 PM

If that's the result. Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow

Beautiful work and your weather is a good reason to be quilting.

montanajan 12-10-2010 07:49 PM

Quilts are meant to be loved - and that means USE them! The pattern on your lovely piece will hide many a food stain!

I think its wonderful...don't be hard on yourself about little fauxpaxs, no one sees them like you do.I recognize my mistakes but my wife always tells me, no one else notices so here I am passing on a wise womans advice.

OK - here goes with trying to upload the instructions for this here on the board. Let me know if you are experiencing any problems with this: if you PM me with your email address, I will send them out as attachments.

All the files are in MS word with the instructions as JPEG on each page. Just be aware that in Europe we have different paper sizes to you - we use A4 size. However, you should be able to resize the JPEGs to print out on whatever size paper you use.

I have been overwhelmed by the response to this! Thank you all for your kind comments and encouragement. I had never made a French Braid before, and to be honest, I had never heard of them, or seen one. Scanning other posts here, I have seen some beautiful examples of FB, but this star shape seems to be a bit unusual. I am so glad you like it, and hope that the instructions download OK.

My goodness that is lovely!. I love the pattern and the fabrics you chose. WTG!

bigbrownowl 12-17-2010 02:47 AM

Thank you to everyone who has made such lovely comments about my French Braid. You are very kind.

Apologies to all for not getting back to you quickly - we have had some intermittent internet supply problems during this week, and I have had little or no internet connection for about 5 days: the disadvantages of living out in't middle of nowhere!

Update on the snow: we had a big thaw and most of the snow disappeared. We have had 4 snow-free days, but I understand from the Met Office that the snow is back over the weekend with a vengance: apparantly a White Christmas is on the agenda for us. Good job I have stocked up with those important little supplies. You know the kind of thing - thread, machine needles, toilet paper, bottles of wine, etc...

.

bigbrownowl 12-19-2010 12:23 PM

I hope that I have messaged all those that wanted the instructions for this. Please PM me if you haven't received them yet.

I won't be posting again until the new year, so Merry Christmas to all!!!

Kind regards

Mandie from Yorkshire

Good Morning Ladies. I was having a snout around the site to see what other people are up to for Christmas, and came across Overlanders post about her French Braid Christmas Tree Skirt. From her picture it looks very similar to mine, although I didn't use the same pattern that she has. If you are looking for a different take on the french braid check out the book that she mentions.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-154297-1.htm

As an update - I DID use it for my Christmas table - and it didn't get anything dropped on it at all. A first in our house! Snow due next week, so watch this space for the results of my enforced imprisonment...
