Fundraising quilt for a community school in Africa
4 Attachment(s)
I've been so busy making this quilt especially since I unpicked all the more formal kind of quilting in favour of that which I think compliments the fabric. It's been a long task but I think I'm pleased-ish with the final results. The quilt is going to be displayed at my daughters school until the end of the summer term and is to be raffled to raise funds for a school, my daughter and eleven of her classmates will be helping to build this summer. I need to make a hanging sleeve for the quilt. Any advice on fabric to use and how to attach it in such a way as to make it easy to remove when needed. Thank you. |
nicely done

Thank you all so much. I was really quite anxious that the school/ group wouldn't like it as the last quilt I made for them was what I would call a formal/regular pattern. This one came out my head and tbh I honestly wouldn't expect everyone to like what comes out of there! I'd sent in some pics prior to quilting to the group leader but didn't get a response which I automatically took to be  So today I was quite gratified when I discovered the teacher had been too busy to reply and that yes it will be on display in the reception area and they were giving it

Beautiful quilt, it should bring in a lot of money.
WOW!! What an amazing quilt. Besutiful work. Thanks for sharing.

This is absolutely gorgeous. My friends and I were discussing that the U. S. doesn't carry these kind of prints and panels like they once did. I'm printing your quilt so they can see how magnificent it is. You did and excellelnt job.

Wow! Very nice, it should make a lot of money in the raffle.

Thank you all very much. I was so scared the school wouldn't like it but I got an email from the expedition leader who has said the headmaster at Albyn intends for the quilt to be on display in the glass display cabinet in the reception area and that rather than just raffling with cloakroom tickets the school will have tickets printed so they can be sold externally too. Dr Long has suggested he would like the raffle rigged in his favour which I assume means he was really rather delighted with it. :D:thumbup: It will also be featured on the school website and in their quite posh glossy end of term magazine. How cool! I do so hope they raise hundreds because that will buy loads of stuff for the community school in Zambia.

this is a most striking quilt!!!! Love all of it!
pretty nice quilt
So bright and colorful! Stunning!
Beautiful quilt! I love your fabrics. My thoughts for a temporary sleeve would be to make about four sections of a normal sleeve about two inches wide and hand stitch them on, spaced evenly accross the back.
Beautiful quilt! Love the label too! Best of luck on the raffle.

Fabulous quilt! I am sure it will raise loads of money for the school.
beautiful!!! I would suggest narrow black loops, like belt loops, or a sleeve with Velcro for hanging.
Wow, that quilt is beautiful!
Very colorful! I am sure someone is going to love it!
Beautiful quilt
You did a beautiful job.
Your quilt is magnificent..What an heirloom quilt...
Sew your sleeve on by hand using large stitches. Cut your fabric 9 inches the length of the quilt. Sew it together and then do not turn inside out. Sew the seam allowance facing the quilt so it does not interfer with sliding the rod through the sleeve. Good luck to you and the girls... |
What an amazing quilt. I hope it brings in tons of money for this wonderful project. It would be great for the quilt to then go to the new school.
What a beautiful job. It will be appreciated and loved.
This is absolutely GORGEOUS! !!
