I just love your funky chickens! I would love to make one of these! It's so adorable!

lclang 12-28-2012 05:39 AM

So, quilt into the background if you need to, it's a funky quilt isn't it?? Looks like a lot of fun to me. I love it.

nabobw 12-28-2012 06:13 AM

That is adorable, I did download the patterns but haven't made the blocks yet. No help on how to quilt it other than an echo of each chicken. The chicken wire was a really good idea.

I downloaded the designs too but haven't started it. Love the colors you chose and the chicken wire background. Would love to see it after you quilt it as I have no ideas at all to offer. It's a lovely fun quilt.

Those are just adorable. I am not a chicken lover, but those have so much personality and are adorable.

wendiq 12-28-2012 08:14 AM

Too cute, Anael....I did a chicken quilt a couple years ago and had it quilted(I just could not handle it myself). The longarmer did echo around each chicken so that each chick "popped". Then she did large chicken wire motif in the sashing and some very large peaks and valleys in the border separating strip and waves in the border. Since the emphasis was on the chickens, echoing, I thought, was perfect.....

What a fantastic funky chicken quilt, if my dear sister were still with is, I'd be tempted to make it for her, although I did make her a great chicken quilt with a pattern from Shar Jorgensen and her youngest daughter now has it in her protective custody.

rosiewell 12-28-2012 09:24 AM

How fun, it is a quilt that makes you smile!

Scrap Quilter 12-28-2012 09:47 AM

Oh, I love this! Great job

OKLAHOMA PEACH 12-28-2012 01:38 PM

I would quilt egg shapes in the border, thats the only suggestion I have. The quilt is adorable, love you colors. It made me giggle.

Sewfine 12-28-2012 02:14 PM

I saved that pattern also but have not begun to work on it yet. Thanks for sharing.

nclauri 12-28-2012 02:51 PM

I LOVE your quilt!!

JanieH 12-28-2012 03:28 PM

I also have no suggestions for the quilting; just wanted to say how adorable your quilt is!

wildyard 12-28-2012 05:07 PM

If outline/echo quilting, I just stop that line when I come to the border, no matter if it's the first or second line or the tenth. I wouldn't extend the quilting into the borders nor into the sashing.

meant2be 12-28-2012 05:44 PM

Makes me smile - love it.

1screech 12-28-2012 05:53 PM

so cute love those chicks.

MimiBug123 12-28-2012 06:10 PM

If you don't want to do chicken wire, I'd just cross-hatch it. I love your quilt. You can't help but smile with that many funky chickens running loose!

sewdamncute 12-28-2012 06:37 PM

What a fun quilt! Maybe you could quilt some random chickeny things, an egg, a chick, feather etc. I'd add some detail to the applique, not much maybe on the wings...what ever you choose, have fun with it!

milikaa1 12-28-2012 07:58 PM

Ha ha, those are way cute! They make me giggle.

rwquilts 12-28-2012 08:25 PM

They are so cute, love chicken blocks.

leighway 12-29-2012 05:34 AM

This is a really happy quilt! Cross-hatching also occurred to me, though the addition of the chicken wire might make it to busy. So, echo quilting with cross hatching in the sashing might work. Great job!

Anael 12-29-2012 05:57 AM

Thank you all for all your compliments and good ideas! I still have to think about how to quilt but I think I will echo around the chicks. The sashing is only 1" wide so cross hatching might not work?

QuiltingSister 12-29-2012 05:57 AM

You can easily echo quilt...just travel along the ditch to begin again, using a fine thread (50 or 60 weight) so the thread doesn't build up. I am a chicken-in-my-kitchen lover, and also have a chicken wall hanging in my sewing room, so this is WAY CUTE!

kalady 12-29-2012 06:02 AM

Very cute and lively

giquilt 12-29-2012 06:10 AM

I printed the patterns, now I wish I had made it also. Love these. Straight lines on diagonal for quilting?

gmcsewer 12-29-2012 12:44 PM

How about echo quilting around each chicken (maybe in a verigated thread) and then go to Leah Day's free motion page and use a different design in each sashing? I am finishing up a small wallhanging of embroidered and appliqued squares from my quilt group friends and did this echo quilt around the designs. It was so much fun. Now I have several designs from Leah Day to use in the sashings and plan to use the same thread color as the fabric so it won't immediately call attention to itself.

Elfi2 12-29-2012 01:34 PM

What a lot of work, but this is soooo cute!!! Love all the chooks!!! :) Thanks for sharing and good luck with the quilting, whatever you decide :)

This is the quilt that I did the echo quilting and the Leah Day designs in the sashing. I am still working on it, but it is so much fun I had rotated the picture in Photoshop, but it didn't carry thru. Sorry..
