Funky Chicks
1 Attachment(s)
This is this years BOM from fatcat, I loved making the blocks. Now the top is done and I have absolutely no idea how to quilt it. It will be a wall hanging but SID isn't enough. I thought about echo quilting but I will end up in the borders with some of the blocks. Any ideas?

They are too fun. I had to look at each one individually and enjoy it.

i love your quilt top. i would outline the chicks and then do chicken wire in the backgrounds and borders
If u quilt on the appliqué, I would add feathers. Love the idea of chicken wire in the background
What a wonderful, great job and thank you for sharing
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
I also did a funky chicken BOM and it was so much fun. Keep me posted on how you quilt it as I don't have any ideas other than a meandering stitch.

The background fabric is chicken wire, I will post a few blocks so you can see. I don't plan on quilting on the applique, just around in in some way. The first picture is the actual colour of the background.

No idea. Just wanted to say that is as cute as it can be. You did a great job. BrendaK

Too cute...bet this was a lof of fun to do. Your fabric choices fit it perfectly.
That is adorable, I did download the patterns but haven't made the blocks yet. No help on how to quilt it other than an echo of each chicken. The chicken wire was a really good idea.
Love this! You could SID then stipple around each chicken. Or echo and go into the borders. I think it would be okay.
Oh my goodness this it cute! I think your echos would still be fine. But you could different background fills in each block.
Adorable quilt top! I would outline quilt the chickens and then maybe a larger chicken wire background using the small chicken wire as a guide. You could see if you could work with 4-5 of the little squares as one?
Such an awesome quilt! I don't have an suggestions for the quilting, but I know you will come up with something that enhances those chicks! Nice job!
Check with your LQS as to what batting they would recommend for a wall hanging. Mine carries this thin poly that will be OK with quilting lines really far apart. Depending on the size of the blocks, you might just be able to get away with SITD around the chickens and sashing.
Maybe add a bit of additional stitching to outline or accent individual applique pieces within each chicken. |
I love your quilt top! I agree with QuiltnNan that a chicken wire background would be perfect!

http://www.fatcatpatterns.com/BoMs.html Thank you all for your compliments! |
Those are the cutest things, I just love them.
How adorable! I would personally just outline the chicks...and stitch in the ditch the squares.
Love your chickens! I am a fn of chickens also and done a quilt with embroidered chikens. Now that Christmas is over and gift making is done I wnat to do some fun things like that. Gteat job!
I would outline the chickens & stitch in the ditch & then I would start at the chicken & do a few very random arc lines resembling a loose feather to anchor the background.
You can echo quilt it and stop at your borders. That should give it enough motion to be fun
This put a smile on my face when I saw it!
I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love your top and the chicken wire background...love all the colors in the blocks. Its a sure thing to bring a smile on the face of the beholder!! Our pullet ladies sing to my dh as he feds them and collects the eggs from the hen house. Good luck on quilting it, no ideas there as I do not machine quilt....the quilts. I pay someone else to do that!!
I just can't explain enough how much I love this quilt. First the chickens are awesome and then the colors you used are awesome too. Wow wow wow! So much fun.
peace EDIT: As far as quilting it, I like the outline and wire effect. If you did echoing, what would it hurt if some of it went into the borders? How about some echoing and just some patches of chicken wire so it only has a hint of it and the birds can still look like free range chickens! |
that is adorable and such nice colors great job!!!
those are the cutest chicks!!
My first thought was cross-hatching, but chicken wire also works!
oh my i have no idea but i think its absolutely BAD#$%!!!! i love it!
I love chicken quilts, this one has great colours. It will certainly brighten any room and lift your spirits. Thank you for sharing.

I am in the same boat with this quilt. I loved working on it - I used every possible bright/lound piece of fabric I could find, it just made me smile every time I picked it up but now have to figure out how to quilt it. Will post pics when done.
