D Hanke, I'm with you, I hate the mess of PPing. I am going to use matching thread and stitch very close to the edge instead of a zig-zag. This is probably going to a wallhanging. Haven't decided on the border yet. And yes it will be outlined with black. I was working on a stained glass wallhanging when I started thinking of doing this New York Beauty.

Diana 007 - I use Wonder Under Light that is fusible on both sides. Fuse Wonder Under to wrong side of fabric, cut your piece and then fuse it in place. I don't do handwork, this is the only kind of applique I do.

Will post photos as I progress.

Very eye catching. I wonder if all that fusible will make your blocks too stiff? You can just trace and cut 1/2" around the design so it will adhere and that will reduce the bulk and stiffness, yet keep the block soft. I really look forward to seeing your finished project. Your colors are beautiful! Well done!!

This will be a wallhanging or a table topper so I am not really concerned about the stiffness...and really after a quilt has been used for a while I can't really tell what is inside. I have made so many machine applique quilts for my children and grandchildren and they have never noticed any extra stiffness. Of course, I don't make quilts to enter in shows either. I think that makes a difference. I think I will ask my kids about this.

I think your idea is great. As a wallhanging, I would definitely try it. You do such beautiful stain glass I'm curious to see how this one comes out. Go for it!

You can purchase a book called "Give and Take" by AQS publishing, written by Daphne Greig and Susan Purney Mark, that teaches you the ins and outs of doing exactly that!!

That's lovely-I do a lot of fusible-they have a sewable weight but since I took a paper piecing class I love it. Keep up the good work Great job!
