Okay I'm really excited so I am already posting my fabric for this one. I am going to do it in the octagons from the One Block Wonders book. This one is actually going to be for me! All of my quilts have gone to others so far.

I started cutting last night so hopefully I will have some blocks to show soon.

Luv your fabric. I have done two OBW's so far and have several fabrics for more. They are so much fun to do. Enjoy....and I will look forward to seeing the finished quilt.

Janstar 09-07-2009 10:04 AM

That fabric is perfect for a OBW. Gorgeous!!! Iv'e made two myself. They are quite addicting! Not as hard as they look huh?

nursie76 09-07-2009 10:11 AM

Love it! I may be dumb, but are those kaleidoscope blocks? I have been just dying to try them, but never can decided what fabric will work. Looks like you definitely don't have that problem. Are the pieces cut with templates? And how do you decide where to cut?

Nursie, there are two great books called One Block Wonders and One Block Wonders Encore by Maxine Rosenthal that explain the process - the fabric is stacked into 6 identical layers and the triangles are cut with a 60° triangle. The patterns fall where they may and it's such FUN! Ain't it, Jenell? Back me up here! :D

nursie76 09-07-2009 12:06 PM

Thanks, I have got to try this it is beautiful!

Mrs. Mel 09-07-2009 01:27 PM

They are turning out beautiful; you are brave, I would have had a hard time cutting that fabric.

camillacamilla 09-07-2009 04:27 PM

I am so glad you posted this, as I think my next quilt is a one block wonder. Please keep us updated on your progress. Looks beautiful so far.

Marcia 09-07-2009 04:36 PM

You picked really great fabric for a kaleidoscope quilt. I cannot wait to see your blocks

Nursie, half the fun is not knowing what will come out as you cut. You never really see till you get all the triangles back together. It sure keeps you sewing! I did use a template on this one because it is 8 instead of 6. When you make it with 6 you only need a 60 degree angle on your ruler.

Okay, here is what I got so far...

wichypoo 09-08-2009 07:54 AM

Lovely fabric. ? what is a OBW, should I 'google' it?

wvdek 09-08-2009 08:06 AM

All those different block color variations out of the same piece of fabric??? I gotta try this. :-o
Your fabric is just beautiful. Which brand and name is it?

k3n 09-08-2009 09:10 AM

That's looking good Jenell! I love the way it's splitting into lilacs and blues; and sorry for giving directions for hexagons when these are clearly OCTAGONS!

billswife99 09-08-2009 09:53 AM

K3n you just jump in here anytime! You are way better at explaining things than I am.

One Block Wonders, w :)

fireworkslover 09-05-2010 06:22 AM

So did this OBW get finished? I'd love to see a picture of it!

QweenBee 09-05-2010 01:04 PM

I'm not sure what a OBQ is, but I do like the one you made for the DH! Very NICE!

billswife99 09-07-2010 09:06 AM

Oh boy, I have been away a long time! And this one is still just about where it was when I last posted. I am just about to finish up my fall OBW for my dad. It's sewed into rows now so it shouldn't be long. Then I can spend a little more time on this one. It doesn't get priority because it's for me.

Pam Pollock 09-07-2010 09:16 AM
