Future Quilter in the family!

3 Attachment(s)
This is my DGD Vanessa's first completed quilt. We made it for her other grandmother's birthday coming on May 1st. I had some orphan blocks, she sewed them together and we added borders till it was big enough for a lap quilt. She picked the fleece for the back of it. She was tired of holding it by the last picture. haha She just turned 7 on the 7th of April

She did a great job, she looks so proud!

What cute fleece. She did a great job. My 7 and 9 year old DGC will be here today. Their first comment when they arrive will be, "when do we get to sew". I have a machine for each of them. I can't wait. I know you are having such fun with your future quilter!!!

she's a cutie, and very proud of her first quilt. get them while they are young, train them how to use the right tools and they'll be forever grateful to you for learning the habit, err...craft. she did a great job.

It is always so much fun to have a grandchild want to do what we do! I was thrilled when my granddaughter at age 5 decided she wanted to begin sewing her own skirts. She is 11 now, and designs quilts and "hands free - Over The Shoulder Bags". She is trying to begin her own business.

daisydebby 04-23-2015 11:05 AM

What Grandmother wouldn't love to get a gift like this quilt from her Granddaughter. She did a super job and she has every right to be proud of herself. BrendaK

How wonderful for both grandmothers!!

What a great quilt! Enjoy your sewing time together. One of my grands spent a week with me last summer, I taught her to use the machine and she loved it. Instead of going out places she just wanted to sew and we had a great time. I am visiting her the first week in may and am taking her a machine of her very own and plan to go fabric shopping with her, can't wait!

Sharonquilts 04-23-2015 03:46 PM

Adorable! She will remember the time you spend together sewing and probably tell her child about it one day.

How nice to share your hobby with your granddaughter. She did a great job.

NIICHMOM 04-24-2015 05:42 PM

I'm always glad to hear that we are passing on the art of quilting... My now 9 yr old DGD is always coming with ideas that she wants to do... she too started sewing at age 7. Congrats to her...

maviskw 04-24-2015 05:43 PM

My granddaughter and grandson wanted to knit when they were here. They both did a little of it then. Their father sews, but I don't think they are into that. Next time I have the chance, I am going to try to do that with them.

Caswews 04-25-2015 02:29 AM

Quiltngolfer 04-25-2015 02:34 AM

Cute little quilter, and her finished quilt is great! That's a nice idea to use orphan blocks.

copycat 04-25-2015 04:16 AM

You have given your DGD the most wonderful gift in life...time to learn how to sew! She did an AWESOME job.

mirabelle 04-25-2015 04:21 AM

What a special bond you have, and how wonderful for her to learn a skill that will be with her forever.

Daisy Dew 04-25-2015 04:29 AM

Isn't it just the Best when those little ones pick up the baton and continue the journey! She is so cute and so proud of her accomplishment! Good for you too to take the time. Memories made for a lifetime!

coopah 04-25-2015 04:30 AM

Your granddaughter is AWESOME! I taught 7/8 year olds for 31 years and can tell you that she did an absolutely fantastic job (with your help of course). MOST kids that age would not stick with the job. Very impressive! You can be pleased and proud for both of you!! WOW!
Edited for word choice.

She is adorable and the quilt is great. She looks so proud.

maviskw 04-25-2015 10:52 AM

I just came from a "ladies only" party. We all had to bring a gift for an exchange. My 14 yr old granddaughter made a rice bag with a pieced top. When it was finished, she liked it so much, she couldn't give it away. So she made another.
I think she is hooked on piecing.

caspharm 04-25-2015 11:05 AM

Great job!

Bluebonnets 04-25-2015 12:19 PM

Way to go!! Pretty quilt!!

MargeD 04-25-2015 12:49 PM

What a great beginning quilt for a budding quilter. It's amazing what children can do when they are encouraged and enthusiastic about sewing/quilting.
