I found these today and had to buy them, I think I have a garage sale addiction!

Murphy 09-25-2011 05:45 AM

And what will these become? They look fun!! Thanks for sharing such a fun find.

cherylynne 09-25-2011 05:46 AM

They don't take up much room and if you like them and can use them, it's a great find.

Airwick156 09-25-2011 05:46 AM

They look like spools from maybe coax cable. What are you going to use them for?

QuiltingKrazy 09-25-2011 05:47 AM

Now you just need to find an oversized needle and a pair of oversize scissors!

S.Pennypacker 09-25-2011 05:48 AM

I have no plans for them yet, any thoughts?

QuiltnNan 09-25-2011 05:50 AM

i like them... just as they are... for decorations. good find!

S.Pennypacker 09-25-2011 05:52 AM

wuv2quilt 09-25-2011 05:56 AM

O Gravy, I see that you're as bad as me....I pick up spools when & wherever I find them...just like the look of them I guess. Your spools are lovely. :)

girliegirl 09-25-2011 05:57 AM

oh my! old wooden spoons!!! My mom has them tooo.... from spinning wool into yarn........... those are keepers... what did you get them for if you mind me asking.

lindy 09-25-2011 06:00 AM

Those will look great on a shelf,

Tippy 09-25-2011 06:02 AM

I love those!! hmmmm.. I know I could find a good use for them... hmmmmmmmm

Lacelady 09-25-2011 06:07 AM

I've seen quite a few of those, well, similar, about 6 - 9in tall. The ones I saw were from industrial weaving mills. I don't have any myself, but I do have a bobbin carrier, that was shunted back and forth with the weft thread, between all the warps.

luvTooQuilt 09-25-2011 06:30 AM

Ha!! I have some too were my that were my MIL..... I was planning on using them for a binding spool.. somehow suspend the spool so the binding can unreel easily at a tug......

they are pretty big.... Nice score..

I made candle holders out these when I bought some. They turned out real cute.

joysewer 09-25-2011 06:44 AM

I have a couple of these that I just sit on a shelf. I have seen lights made using these....makes a nice light for a sewing room.

sewsewquilter 09-25-2011 07:05 AM

I have several. I stuck a candle in top and call them candlesticks. :-) I left mine the way I got them. I didn't paint or add any fixtures.

Crqltr 09-25-2011 07:18 AM

I have a tipped antique china cup with buttons spilling out onto the dresser scarf, on a dry sink of grandma's. That type of spool would add to it..I will be looking ! Thanks for the idea!

S.Pennypacker 09-25-2011 07:18 AM

2 bucks a piece.

The small ones are like 5 inches and the bigger one is around 8.

Oh -how I love these old spools. I have some found at a garage sale too. I just set mine around the house; I have some fake candles that glow with batteries and put those in the top of a couple and leave the rest empty. Ideas are endless. Am also collecting wooden spools from thread and filling a pickle barrel with or without thread on them. Oh so fun to snoop at garage sales.

Bobbinchick 09-25-2011 08:26 AM

You could always make quilt binding and wrap it around the spools so you have them when you want them. Huggies, Fay

SandraQuilts 09-25-2011 08:27 AM

these are great for wrapping your binding around to store.

Two bucks apiece--what a deal! You should see the price of those spools in antique shops. They are great decorative items just as they are.

Ann L 09-25-2011 10:51 AM

Nice find. I love them as is.

Quiltbeagle 09-25-2011 11:02 AM

Depending on where you'd hang it I'd put a wire coathanger through it or maybe a wooden dowel attached to something so you could pull your binding off easily?

Mariposa 09-25-2011 11:03 AM

Fun finds!! :)

Phannie1 09-25-2011 11:04 AM

My friend loves spools. She has about 50 all over the house. Sizes and colors are great. and They make great candle holders.

girliegirl 09-25-2011 11:05 AM

i like the big one! well i like them all

GreatStarter 09-25-2011 11:24 AM

I have been buying them occasionally over the last 25 years or so. I use some just setting around the house sometimes. The first one I ever got was a gift. It came with a ribbon running through it tied in a bow, and a towel hanging off it (spool on it's side). I use that all these years still. Otherwise they make great candle holders or just decorative items. You got them for a great price! Enjoy them.

Kat

brenda21 09-25-2011 11:59 AM

S.Pennypacker 09-25-2011 12:18 PM
