This is going to sound crazy, but I hope this makes sense. I place a pin in the"ditch" of each side. When I place the right sides together I feel for the pins & then I mark the sashing with a chalk line. Pin it together & open it to look before I sew it together. Does this make any sense? It's hard to explain sometimes, but this is what I do on all the ones I have made. If anybody knows of an easier way I am listening. Trust me I had to undo this quilt a few times to get it to line up.
Good luck. |

Can you do a tutorial or pic? Sounds interesting but hard to picture.

What a great quilt - my girl friend would love it as she loves Canadian geese. Great job.

It's a beautiful quilt and looks like one a man would love. The color choices are great!

"lfstamper" wanted to know how I lined up my rows, here are some pictures to try to explain what I do. Picture #1 is a pin in the seam. Picture #2 is a pin in the seam of the block to be sewn onto the next row, I do this to feel if the pins match up. Or you can look at the end of the block & see if the seams run in line with each other. I also pin the sashing & mark with chalk, you really don't have to mark it. Picture #3 I open the rows to make sure that they match up. Sometime you have to redo this. I do this with every seam. Once the entire row is pinned, I opend the entire strip, I stand up & look closely to see if everything is in line. I pin my rows to the carpet so they can't move. The pictures are of my practice blocks. They didn't make the cut because I clipped the wings on them. I hope this help & again if anyone has a better way I am always making notes to help in the future. :)

A beautiful quilt and clever use of fabric. Thanks from all of us for the "mini tute" on lining them up. As flying geese are my favorite block - I just have to ask........... Which method do you use for making them? I make mine from squares - four at a time. Do you do that or the cut off method or piece them from triangles? Obviously your method works fabulously for you! Not all quilts have to shout at you. Love the peaceful feeling you've created.
