General's Wives - Quilted

5 Attachment(s)
Here are the final pictures of my General's Wives quilt. I posted the top when it was complete here:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/pictures-f5/generals-wives-completed-top-t185892.html Now I've had it long-armed and in exchange, I gave the quilter my second child (couldn't bear to part with the first one...I know mothers are not supposed to have favourites, but they don't read this board, so it's OK. :o ). Actually, it wasn't that bad. This is king-sized, and she charged me $275 to quilt it. It's not even in the same league as something Charisma would do, but since Charisma lives in a different country than me, I'll never have the opportunity for her to do one of mine. The feathers on this are so much better than I could ever do (I took a course in FMQ in March. Disaster. I've decided that I will never be able to learn it. I don't have enough patience to practice for ten thousand hours to get proficient at it. And I'm OK with that, SITD is just fine!)

My ex-husband and my daughter are holding it up. Originally my ex was standing proudly beside it on the left hand side - as if he had anything to do with it! I told him that I didn't want him in the picture and he seemed a little crestfallen and wondered when I was going to make him a quilt. Maybe someday, when I run out of other people to make them for.

Note the quilt inspector (My Sheltie, Jack) in the lower right hand corner.

Hi, your quilt is beautiful. I love feathers for quilting. My ex-husband has never seen a quilt I have made. LOL

Helen S 06-15-2012 10:31 AM

I love this pattern and your fabric choices for it are perfect! Nice job!

$275 seems a bit expensive for the LAQ, but I haven't had one done yet myself, although a local shop quoted between $80 and $150, depending on size here.

Sew N Tune 06-15-2012 10:48 AM

What a wonderful quilt. I love the design and your colors. I'm right there with you on the FMQ. I can't do it either. If I have to practice that much, I'll never get anything sewed. Your LAQ did a marvelous job.

Tweety2911 06-15-2012 10:52 AM

Beautiful quilt!

Bonnie 06-15-2012 11:13 AM

Beautiful quilt and the quilting is nice too.

dakotamaid 06-15-2012 12:25 PM

That is a beautiful quilt. And 275.00 is not much depending on how custom the quilting is. I think if your hubby supports your habit he should have a quilt of his own!! JMO!!:):)

She said her ex-husband - - that's a different story!!

Great quilt! My ex was never allowed to be in my yard so you are nicer then me. LOL

quilter1943 06-15-2012 06:01 PM

I love it! The colors are just perfect and the quilting is great. We spend time in Canada so know EVERYTHING costs a bit (sometimes a lot) more up there. Just scrolled back up to look at your fabrics. Just beautiful and the piecing is great too.

Kate_W 06-15-2012 06:13 PM

Oooooh! That is inspiring! And beautiful! Thank you.

tesspug 06-15-2012 06:37 PM

A truly beautiful work of art. You inspire me.

Your quilt is gorgeous. By the way, Charisma quilts for Canadians.

I'm in love! I love Civil War repros anyway & this beautiful quilt just reinforces my love for them! Wow! I just love it! The toile is perfect in there... gorgeous! And I think the quilting is fabulous... as is your quilt inspector. All-in-all, the whole deal is just one big, beautiful package! And p.s: my ex is in my yard half the time, too... we get along better now than we ever did when we shared a last name! LOL! But there's NOT a quilt in his future... at least not from me! LOL!

Sewfine 06-16-2012 12:46 AM

I love everything about this quilt, but the cost of LAQ.

Moonglow 06-16-2012 01:14 AM

Beautifully pieced and beautifully quilted.

Sylvie45 06-16-2012 04:25 AM

In the opinion of another Canadian $275 for a king size is very reasonable.

nabobw 06-16-2012 05:00 AM

I agree you

Sandra in Minnesota 06-16-2012 12:42 PM

You did a great job on your quilt, and it was well worth the money to get this long-armed. Keep it forever!

0tis 06-16-2012 12:53 PM

I love it - this is one of my favorites - you did an excellent job and its nice to get the LA work done - even if its pricey - definitely a keeper (unlike the ex)...:)

quiltingcurious 06-16-2012 02:05 PM

Very Historical looking, what a lot of work but it turned out beautifully! Maybe, your ex is just proud of your hard work. He could have dropped his end after he was moved to the back! The backing and your quilting are lovely too.

cindy4857 06-16-2012 10:29 PM

love the quilt. You and the quilter did a great job. I got an EX that acts like I should give a darn at times too. That song my giveadamn is busted is one of my favorites. lol Job well done

BrendaK 06-16-2012 10:43 PM

The quilt is lovely. I really like the quilting. Taking nothing away from Charismah I know that there are other talented LA'ers out there. I think she did a super job of quilting. BrendaK

Love your quilt and you have a GREAT sense of humor!!!

tedytrser 06-17-2012 03:49 AM

That is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Lucy90 06-17-2012 04:21 AM

I'm making the General's Wife quilt as a block of the month. I have three more months and I will be able to put it together. I just love the material for this quilt. I have made other civil war quilts but this is my favorite. Hope my quilt looks as good as yours. I bought the extra kit to make it a king size.

chaskaquilter 06-17-2012 05:57 AM

Your quilt is just beautiful. When I have made "special" quilts, I have sent them to the LAer. Quilts that I have made for my grandkids, I have quilted on my machine. And a couple that I made for myself also. And my ex would be the last one on my list also.

jbj137 06-17-2012 06:30 AM

Super NICE.
